@peacocklady0 Engineers and technicians tend to resent managers that don't know how to use the equipment or could step in and handle the day to day processes, or who manage from on high (different floor, corner office, etc).

TJ says it might be a sign of weakness if I'm working right beside my team?? Like, they'll think I'm a sucker and have less respect. I never thought of it that way??? I don't think that's the case. He works in a VERY different industry. But i am sometimes naive...

Students regularly send me emails thanking me for things that I consider to be basic human kindness (actual examples: extending a deadline if a student is sick, responding to emails). The bar is so unbelievably low for professors.

resharing this again for anyone who missed it earlier; I have learned SO MUCH from the people in this group, and I'm very glad that we're starting up again after our summer break ...and pinging @theapepperl and @MiaZamoraPhD in particular for the beauty of constrained writing :-)

We each wrote a poem based on George Lyon’s poem “Where I’m From” and then picked our favourite line to make a whole-class poem. This is where we are from!

Hmm... might show this as a case study for patent searches. Anybody have other examples of vintage artifacts where some provenance could be determined through patent search?

I've been using Mendeley Desktop daily for years, & have an annotated library of thousands of pdfs. Today, I switched to Zotero. Here's a 🧵of tips on how to do this, if you're also tired of Elsevier's BS and want to make the switch w/minimal effort while maintaining workflow.

I have COVID for the second time, this time after being vaccinated and boosted. But I'm OK. I mean, I am sick and all, but not wrecked like last time. It was inevitable. I was the last person in Cairo wearing masks, covid is going around, and I'm immune compromised. Inevitable

Learned a new word today from my 10 yo and her friends. "slay", as in, "really good/cool". Such an unexpected use of the term, but I guess it's like saying "she's killing it"?

Hear @AsaoBInoue read “Assessing so That People Stop Killing Each Other” from Hybrid Teaching: Pedagogy, People Politics. I’m grateful for his generous permission to reprint the piece, as well as his time recording this version. anchor.fm/hybrid-teachin…

It doesn’t take a title to make you a leader. If you are challenging the status quo, trying something new, or working to create change, that is leadership and it means you are a leader.
