Scientists have discovered the first-ever fossilized mosquito containing preserved blood — dating back approximately 46 million years. The specimen, found in Montana, holds something extraordinary inside its abdomen. Using advanced chemical analysis, researchers detected iron and heme, the key molecular components of blood. This provides direct evidence that the mosquito had fed on blood shortly before it died and was fossilized. This is a scientific first. While mosquito fossils are known from amber, this is the oldest known compression fossil with confirmed blood remnants preserved inside the body. The exceptional preservation occurred in the oxygen-poor sediments of an ancient lakebed. Fine-grained mud rapidly buried the insect, slowing decay and allowing minerals to replace its tissues while leaving behind detectable biological molecules like heme. The discovery confirms that blood-feeding behavior in mosquitoes existed at least 46 million years ago, offering valuable insight into the evolution of these insects and ancient ecosystems. And yes, the question everyone asks: can we use this to resurrect ancient creatures, Jurassic Park style? The answer is no. DNA degrades far too quickly. Even in ideal conditions, it has a half-life of roughly 521 years. After 46 million years, virtually no usable genetic material remains. Still, this fossil is remarkable in its own right. It shows that even after tens of millions of years, traces of ancient life — including a final meal — can survive in the rock record. @phooAb @X @Support @naya_am03 My other account was also unsuspended yesterday, notified via email, but the account is still in read-only and shows as still being suspended via the X app. I'm not sure why this is, but something is not right.

@X @Support This account (@naya_am03) was denied then later approved to be restored but still shows as suspended publicly and in read only mode. Appeals and forms return automated responses. This seems like a backend sync issue. Could this be manually checked?
