In one sense, the Brewers are being themselves, grinding and pressuring defenses. They do a great job of scoring when off form, but I don't think they've hit their straps just yet at the plate. If anything, the defense, base stealing and pitching have been stealing the show

One of things the Brewers do incredibly well, they don't compound errors. Junior Caminero is getting a lesson on that topic tonight

Well Logan Henderson looks ready to go once he's stretched out. Still would like to see more from the slurve, but the fastball is just so so nasty. 79% whiff rate is ludicrous even at Triple A, just got to build the pitch count

@ChiSoxFanMike If it helps, although the Brewers were tough to hit, the quality of contact/EVs were loud. Just some early season rust perhaps, and the Miz/Ashby being themselves

I’m glad the White Sox don’t play today. I need a day to mentally recover from the ass kicking they got yesterday.

@upnext4brewers Yes and no. Mitchell has made some big changes to deal with high fastballs, and unfortunately through injury has had limited time to bed those in and get his timing mechanisms down. In about three months time, we should have a more complete picture if he stays healthy

@thebrewerblogs Is there anything you see in Mitchell analytically that leads you to believe he will have success this season? I’m an old retired basketball coach. I don’t feel he is a team guy. No show for most of last season when hurt. Compare that to woody and showing up when hurt! Not a fan

One intriguing thing from Brewers opening day: Brandon Lockridge's sole batted ball event involved a bat speed of 79.6 mph

@upnext4brewers Absolutely! Jake Bauers led the team, followed by Garrett Mitchell and Daz Cameron

@thebrewerblogs Interesting. Can I just ask who had the highest average mph swing for Brewers in 2025?

@upnext4brewers So it's very early and max swing speed isn't as solid an indicator as average swing speed, however if you want to look it up, the baseball savant search guide lets you sort by player, "event" and bat speed, showing every recorded swing speed over a time period

@thebrewerblogs Jake, where can we find this info? Is it available for all to see? What is average swing mph by brewers? I’ll ask for that instead of asking you to post all brewers. Ha.

@wiguy94 David Hamilton recorded speeds up to 83.8 mph in 2025 which is somewhat surprising, with 6 swings in excess of 79 mph. Lockridge apparently got up to 84.6 mph on batted ball events

@thebrewerblogs Any word on him implementing changes that coincide with the improvement? Players his age rarely see drastic skill improvement at his age. There usually needs to be some kind of change for it to be truly sustainable.

Underlying data means more in spring than any results, and Bauers has made some real strides. His zone contact rate was 80% in 2025 ST along with a 23% strikeout rate and lower batter ball quality vs this: The hit tool improvement is a carryover from how he finished 2025

It's going to be very interesting how much Mitchell plays. The defense has, and should continue to be, excellent but with a raft of swing changes over the last two seasons with a lot of injuries preventing him developing those changes, he's not looking on time at the plate

Interesting to note that Blake Perkins has been deferring to Sal Frelick, Garrett Mitchell, Jackson Chourio and Brandon Lockridge in CF appearances so far this spring
