There are a lot of things I don’t miss about Blockbuster. I don’t miss finding out they were out of the movie I wanted. I don’t miss late fees. I don’t miss having to rewind. But I do miss the way it made Friday nights feel special. Walking the aisles. Reading the backs of the boxes. Arguing over what to rent. Begging mom for candy at the counter, only for her to remind us we had treats at home. Carrying the movie home like we’d found treasure. Ordering pizza and root beer, and hearing and smelling my mom make popcorn in the Whirley Pop on the stove. Waiting impatiently for Dad to finish his latest project so we could start the show. Family movie night was magical.
