I’m absolutely gutted that one of my best friends, @jimpagels, was killed on Friday by a driver while he was biking. For Jim, who was a passionate urbanist and safe streets advocate, to become DC’s latest victim of traffic violence is infuriating as it is devastating.

Tragic news: Hit and run-driver struck and injured Alexandra Betzel, 31, on her bike Wednesday at Addison/Kimball in Avondale. She's in a medically-induced coma with injuries to her ribs, chest and face. Her family is asking the driver to turn themself in. wgntv.com/news/chicago-n…

We found that the most dangerous place to be a cyclist was on an arterial road—a multi-lane thoroughfare with traffic signals at intersections and speed limits exceeding 30 mph. Arterials accounted for 65 percent of the fatal crashes in our database.
