PlayStation is facing huge backlash over its new age check rules for UK users, some users say their console is almost unusable now To comply with the Online Safety Act, Sony now requires players to prove their age using a face scan with Yoti, a government ID, or a phone number. This is needed to use voice chat, party chats, messaging, broadcasting, and multiplayer features on PS5 and PS4 consoles. Single-player games can still be played without checking, but social and chat features will be locked from June 2026. Sony has had major data leaks before, and Yoti has been fined for data problems. Long-time players are asking why they must prove their age now. Some UK adults do not want face scans saying this breaks consumer rights by removing features people already paid for.

So, @PlayStation is basically unusable for me now. The UK Online Safety Act means I have to hand over a face scan or government ID just to use basic features. My PAYG mobile isn't accepted, and I’m not giving biometrics to a company with a history of massive data breaches. #Ps5

Sony locking paid features behind an ID wall is a breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Rejecting PAYG and certain IDs also violates the Equality Act 2010 by excluding marginalised players. We bought a service, not a digital surveillance state. @PlayStation @Sony #PS5

This is fucking crazy. Dystopian as hell, asking for government ID or biometric data to use a PlayStation that you paid for and there’s people in the replies really acting like this is okay. People have really been conditioned to just not care about their privacy I guess, or that they don’t own the things they pay for. And no, if you think Sony deletes any of this data you’re out of your mind.

Mimi reveló que estuvo bajo custodia tras ser arrestada el 20 de abril. Las autoridades confiscaron todos sus dispositivos y ahora está libre bajo fianza con condiciones extremas: no puede publicar contenido adulto y debe usar un nombre aprobado por la policía. Las leyes británicas son sumamente severas respecto a la posesión de cierto tipo de ilustraciones que las autoridades clasifican como material restringido, incluso si son completamente ficticias.
