I first learned about Geoffrey Canada many years ago from my dad, who always believed a person’s zip code should never define their potential. Ever since I became an educator, I’ve followed Geoffrey’s work with deep admiration. Yesterday, I had the honor of hearing him speak in person, and his words reignited my purpose. His passion for community, equity, and hope moved me. As he closed with this poem, I was reminded why this work matters so deeply. I can only hope to be half the educator he is.
