Hamilton wasn’t great either. But he was a lot better here in Japan, than he was last year. Lewis couldn’t make good use of his tyre management like he did in China and Australia, as Suzuka is a low deg track. He had no response to Leclerc’s mega pace.
This was one of the worst tracks for these regulations. The racing was good but quali was terrible. Qualifying in high speed tracks will be like this for a while it seems. The new engines are very problematic in this regard. Which is a shame as the chassis is great in these regs.
Alonso, Bottas and Sainz delivered incredible laps but were still knocked out in Q1. Goes on to show how far Aston, Cadillac & also Williams are. Sainz delivered a mega weekend to score points. Executed a long stint on hards brilliantly and kept much faster cars behind.
Alpine’s high speed weakness wasn’t exposed by Shanghai so they were quick. Although the car still experiences too much clipping. Colapinto’s race was solid but his one lap form has been bad for a while now. Its weird because he was closing the gap on Gasly mid-way through 2025.
