Basically what this does is you upload any photo, pick your pet's vibe, and it spits out a full pixel art sprite sheet that works directly in the Codex app. no coding, no Codex subscription needed to generate, just upload and go. been seeing a lot of people wanting pets in Codex but having no idea how to actually make one. the hatch-pet skill is cool but you need to already be using Codex for it to work, and even then the prompting is annoying. this is just a link you send someone and they get their own pet. here's how it works. you go to the site, drop your photo or skip it if you want a random one, pick a species, choose some personality traits, and hit forge. takes about 1 to 3 minutes because it's actually generating 5 separate AI poses based on whatever personality you picked. playful gets you dance and run animations. curious gets think and wave. lazy gets sleep. each pet is different. when it's done you get a page with your pet animated in the browser. you can click through all the animations, share the link with anyone, and download the files. now for the actual Codex part. the download gives you a zip with two files inside, spritesheet.webp and pet.json. those two files are literally everything Codex needs to run your pet. on Mac or Linux you pop open terminal and run mkdir -p ~/.codex/pets/yourpetname then unzip the file in there. on Windows you go to C:\Users\YourName.codex\pets\ in File Explorer, make a folder with your pet's name, and drag the two files in. after that you open Codex, go to Settings, then Pets, click Refresh custom pets, and your pet shows up. select it and it starts floating around while you work. the rarity system rolls on generation so you might get common, uncommon, rare, or legendary. 1% chance on legendary. purely cosmetic but people seem to care about it which is fair. if you just want to show people your pet without putting it in Codex that works too. every pet has its own link that anyone can open in a browser and see it animated. no app needed. going to keep adding stuff. thinking about letting people regenerate individual animations if one comes out weird, and maybe a leaderboard sorted by rarity. also need to figure out a better solution for Windows users since the terminal command is smoother on Mac. for now just go make your pet and see what comes out. getyourownpet.com
