Despite the evidence that privately delivered surgeries have higher death rates, worse outcomes, higher costs and bleed staff away from the public system, the Ford government has introduced legislation today. Our job now is to battle like never before for the public system.

The real labor shortage is the shortage of good, safe, fair-wage union jobs. Shortage of affordable childcare. Shortage of labor protections. Shortage of healthcare leading to an excess of disability. These are real shortages

All those op-eds about a “labor shortage” were trying to get us to accept stuff like letting kids work in meatpacking plants. Raise the wage and hire adults

(Thread) In the first What If? book, I answered a question about cooking a steak by dropping it from space. At one point, I commented—jokingly!—that if anyone put a steak in a hypersonic wind tunnel to gather better data, I’d love to see the video. Well, I have good news.

When rail workers want to strike: “but it’ll hurt the economy!” When nurses want to strike: “what about the patients?!” When teachers want to strike: “what about the kids?!” This is union-busting propaganda. Strikes are hard on workers and are an essential part of bargaining.

#OpEd: "When a single billionaire can accumulate more money in 10 seconds than their employees make in one year, while workers struggle to meet the basic cost of rent and medicine, then yes, every billionaire really is a policy failure." tnvge.co/t2Ksaoc

this semester i tried a radical thing where i made every single deadline flexible for my college writing students. every single one! no "i almost died" note required. the policy is that if they aren't going to meet the deadline, they just propose an alternate one. i bet this...

People in political power talk about how difficult the past 2+ years have been for students in schools while never tying that to their own policies (or lack of) that didn’t mitigate the effects of COVID in the first place.
