It’s been almost a year of building @MatiksHQ. In this short time: We grew from a 3-member team to 20. Moved across 3 offices to keep up with our growth. Saw our product copied by a big firm. Received 2 acquisition offers. Saying yes to those acquisition offers would have been the easier choice. But we did not start Matiks for short-term wins. We started Matiks because we believe people deserve a better way to spend their screen time, a place where playing with numbers is fun, social, and gives you a daily productive dopamine dose. Today, I’m excited to share that @MatiksHQ has raised $3.14 Million Pre-Series A funding round, led by Tanglin Venture Partners and Info Edge Ventures 🎉 And yes, we even reduced the round size so that we can get our Pi. This is just the beginning. Our dream is simple: to make Matiks a part of everyone’s phone. A big thank you to my cofounders @cortisoul_ , @SushantTimmapur, our Matiks team, our users, and our investors who believed in this vision 🙏
Matiks@MatiksHQ

We just raised $3.14M🥧 From solving brain teasers in classrooms to solving for scale, this one’s a big step towards making mind sports the coolest out there. Huge thanks to our investors for believing in the equation we’re building @InfoEdgeVC @UntitledVC @gauravmunjal @RomanSaini @anilgoteti @Tanuj_kh @AmanHasNoName_2 @yash_dandavate @Abhishek Patil(Growthx) Now let’s multiply the madness 🚀

spent 2.5 years working on US-market products good work decent pay zero soul yesterday I was playing badminton with Class 4 kids in my society one kid asked where I work I said Matiks he just… stopped “Didi, THE MATH GAME?” I smiled. said yeah. he opened his phone (yes, a 9-year-old has his own phone, different conversation), and showed me his 4-day streak. I was expecting maybe 200😤 it was 4. didn’t matter. that kid was PROUD of those 4 days then he turned to the other kids and went: “yeh didi Matiks mein kaam krti hai” and suddenly I was surrounded by Class 4-5 kids asking me questions like “are you the one who makes the maths?” “why do an app need someone in growth?” broooo- a 9 year kids asked me how growth functions😳 one kid told me his tuition teacher makes everyone play Matiks for 10 mins before class starts every day at 4 PM sharp while students trickle in I built something that became part of a child’s daily routine without anyone asking them to that’s the whole dream right there working on an Indian product hits different not because of the market size or the TAM or whatever but because the people using it, they’re RIGHT THERE playing badminton with you showing you their streak screaming your company’s name across the court that’s it that’s the job i love🫶

We’ve already conducted leagues across 90 colleges in India and onboarded 10,000+ students. Now we’re looking to bring these leagues to US colleges. If you’re in college and active in any club, for example, debate, finance, chess, quant, drama, consulting club, coding org, entrepreneurship society, student government, even improv or film....I would love to talk. We’re looking for real student voices who are actually involved on campus and know people. There are monetary rewards for the POC and winners ($200–$300). Apply here: docs.google.com/forms/d/1VdekS… (or tag someone who would be a great fit for this) @MatiksHQ

Hiring Advice 001: One of the best frontend engineers are those who wanted to become backend engineers but ended up becoming frontend engineers. They think about optimization, scale, abstractions, separation of concerns, and other backend principles, which often result in clean, modular code. Note: Exceptions are always there.

I’ve been seeing a lot of comments saying my cofounder is “exploiting” me after his post about me. So let me clarify a few things. Before joining @MatiksHQ , I had already done 2 years of internships, including 8 months at my previous company where I was earning around ₹25k/month. When I was planning to leave that role, I wasn’t desperately looking for money. I was looking for time to explore, learn, and build something meaningful. (bhai mai 2nd year m hi money minded kyu ban jata🤣🤣 and tabhi funding aayi nhi thi btw warna investors ke paise to leta hi ) Then I came across @MatiksHQ . I actually reached out to them first, asking if I could contribute as an open-source contributor because I liked what they were building and wanted to be part of it. For the first week, I worked unpaid simply because I was curious and wanted to learn. No one forced me to do that. Later we decided on a stipend.(5K for next one week) Also, my current tenure at Matiks is more than 18 months now, which means it’s almost 4 years of internships in total across different companies. So if someone still wants to say “intern hi rahega”, that’s fine, I know the kind of experience and ownership I’ve gained in these years. One more context people might be missing: when I first connected with Matiks I was still in my 2nd year of college. At that time, the founders being from IIT was honestly a big “wow” moment for me, which made it easier for me to trust what they were building. Another reason I trusted the project early on was that they were already working in MNCs, so I initially thought this was just a fun side project they were building, and I was excited to contribute and learn. People on the internet often reduce everything to “salary = value.” But early in your career, learning, ownership, and real responsibility can be far more valuable than a paycheck. Working closely with founders, building real products, and solving real problems has taught me more than most classroom lectures ever did. So no, I’m not being exploited. I chose this path intentionally. And honestly, I’m grateful for the opportunity to build something from the ground up. Not every decision is about money. Sometimes it’s about who you’re building with and what you’re becoming. This is the exact full story from my side. I know I can’t reply to every hater, especially the ones using vulgarity. sorry for the 1-day late reply, @elonmusk review hi nahi kar rahe the. and @elonmusk you should say thanks to ur community that i bought x premium just to write my journey which became controversy🤣 If someone still thinks that post was rage bait then it’s your choice.

It has been 1.4 years since he joined, and his stipend is now 20x what it was earlier (much higher than many full-time salaries at other companies). Even as an intern, we have awarded him significant ownership in the company, one of the highest ESOP grants we have given. This is how startups work. You join because you believe in the team, and over time you become an important pillar of the company. There is a reason we have a 0% attrition rate in our company.

recently , i’ve seen founders have ragebait hiring and salary posts, just to get virality and views. TBH, it is hampering your brand value only. If someone says puch to me, I only remember their iPhone giveaway, how they fooled everyone. Similarly, Matiks how they are glorifying working 7 days, with IITian and 5k INR stipend by ragebaiting, you’ll get views but not users.

everyone talks about founders nobody talks about the team so here i am talking about the people who build matiks. first up, ritesh he was a 3rd year student interning somewhere for ₹25k we offered ₹5k he still joined not for money but for learning. said working closely with IIT grads would teach him more joined in september'24, the same month we had all quit our jobs we moved to bangalore in october he came too, on that stipend we were working 7 days a week then told him to take sundays off and he said, “what would i even do?” over time he’s become like a younger brother still an intern, graduating this year but i’ll bet ₹5L he’s better than most engineers with 5 years of experience in bangalore. rare to find people like @k123ritesh

I don’t introduce myself as the Co-founder of @MatiksHQ to anyone except VCs. Whenever I travel, I usually stay in hostels. It’s easier to socialize and meet new people. During introductions, I just say I’m a software engineer at Matiks. I don’t mention that I co-founded it. I don’t want to associate myself with any tag like “Founder” or “IIT.” Stripping away those labels reminds me who I am without external validation. The moment you say “co-founder,” the vibe changes. People start treating you differently. I don’t want that. I just want to blend in, exchange stories, and be another person building things. Of course, in my career, these titles do matter. They provide context, credibility, and proof. But in everyday life, especially while traveling, I value being just another human in the room. A few weeks back, I went to Mulki for surfing and a workation. This time, though, someone recognized me from Twitter while I was introducing myself. So that plan didn’t last long. Still, I’ll keep saying I’m a software engineer. Because that’s what I truly enjoy being.
