Public Service Announcement
Be wary of "scouts" and "writers" who don't list their name with articles they publish or list their name on their social media page. Some very clear plagiarism and fraudulent material being published about events run by PGH Michigan and LBI last weekend by the purple basketball brand. Both LBI and PGH have scouts in the gym covering games live and writing content afterwards. Please do not tag me in anything written or published by copycats who do not attend games or tournaments and simply copy what we write. I will not validate it or repost their material, it's an insult to real scouts like us who put in the work to cover these kids. Then on top of that, they charge you to read a summary of articles using content WE WRITE about your kids from articles and what we post on social media. If you don't recognize the person publishing content or they aren't representing a brand with a reputation of being in the gym, then please don't validate what they write.

Had a great conversation with college coaches this weekend during the PGH MI College Tour and the consensus is what you do in the box score doesn't matter when it comes to being recruited. Make the RIGHT plays and decisions. That gets you noticed. Forcing the issue does not. It's not about taking 30 shots to score double-digits. Be the best facilitator, defender, rebounder, communicator, make winning plays, and make your shots count, however many that is. You will stand out in a good way to college coaches and scouts if you do that. When the shot volume isn't there, can you still separate yourself? Need to have a multidimensional game.

Post-game dinner last night at Korea House in East Lansing, MI, my Favorite Korean Restaurant and my #9 New (to me) Restaurant of 2023. I had the Spicy Cha Jang Myon (pork, onions, mushrooms, and green peppers in a spicy black bean paste served with noodles) and the complimentary Banchan (Korean side dishes, clockwise from upper left--bean sprouts, potato salad, fish cakes, and kimchi). This is one of my favorite dishes at Korea House.

Game 4 (from yesterday):
Defense reigned supreme early as Goodrich and Tecumseh had to work hard each possession to find open looks. With a slim 4-pt lead halfway through the 2nd qtr, Goodrich more than doubled its scoring over the next 4 minutes with a 15-2 run, featuring a combined 12 points from Kayla Hairston and Baylor Lauringer, to go up 29-12 late in the 2nd qtr. Tecumseh whittled the margin down to 10 late in the 3rd, but Hairston collapsed the defense off the drive and found Tanner Schramm for a corner 3 at the buzzer to give Goodrich a 41-28 advantage going into the final period. Goodrich extended the margin back to 17 at 52-35 with a Hairston 3 around 3:30, but Tecumseh made another run to cut it down to 53-42 off a 3 by Avery Zajac around the 1:00 mark. A pair of FTs by Lauinger and an answering pair by Chloe Bullinger closed out the scoring. Goodrich completes an undefeated season with a 55-44 victory over defending champ Tecumseh to win the Division 2 State Championship. This is Goodrich's 3rd state title to go with back-to-back championship seasons in 2012 & 2013.
Sr Northwood signee Kayla Hairston (pictured, top-r) went 4-for-5 from 3-pt land to cap her career with a 21-point performance. Jr Baylor Lauinger (pictured, bottom-r) scored in a variety of ways offensively and had a great defensive game as she accumulated 14 points, 5 steals, and 5 rebounds. Sr Tanner Schramm hit a pair of 3s to add 8 points, while fr Kat Federick pitched in 7 points and 4 steals off the bench.
Fr Avery Zajac concluded her rookie campaign with an outstanding final 2 games at the Breslin Center, including hitting a trio of 3s on her way to 19 points on Saturday. 6' jr Addi Zajac was swarmed with 2, 3, and sometimes 4 defenders in the post all game long, but fought hard for a 10-&-12 double-double along with 3 blocked shots and 3 assists. Sr Chloe Bullinger added 7 points and 4 assists.

Alonna Thelen hit a pair of FTs at 6:03 for P-W, but LC held them scoreless for the remainder of the game as they scored the final 12 points. Lumen Christi wins the Division 3 State Championship with 52-36 victory. Back to Harrison Roadhouse in East Lansing between sessions. Today, I went with the Crash Landing Burger (a unique brioche "UFO"-shaped bun stuffed with two smashed burger patties, chopped thick-cut bacon, sauteed onions, and their infinity sauce) with French Fries.

Game 2:
Detroit Renaissance built a 15-2 lead capped by a Zahra Richardson (@ZahraRichardson ) 3 to open the 2nd qtr scoring. Muskegon then turned the tables and held Renaissance scoreless for the next 7 minutes as they scored 10 in a row to cut it to 15-12. Renaissance broke the drought with a basket inside by Jayla Adams off a dish from Maria Walker (@mariawalker2028 ) at the buzzer. Muskegon continued to whittle away and eventually tied the game at 21 on a FT by Dy'nasti Bell to open the 4th.
Jaebri'an Autry scored on drives on back-to-back possessions followed by another interior score by Adams, this time off a Kassidy Cain dish, to give Renaissance a 27-21 advantage. Mariah Sain hit a pull up at the elbow and added a pair of FTs on the next possession to cut it to 27-25 at 3:28. After Renaissance ran over a minute off the clock, Bell got fouled on a putback attempt and hit both FTs to tie it at 1:56. After another defensive stop, Bell scored off a dish from Antanique Sargent to put Muskegon up 2 with 0:59 remaining. A FT by Sain and a pair of FTs by Camiyah Bonner extended their run to 11 to give Muskegon a 32-27 lead with 0:18 left. A Cain score off the cut and a pair of Sain FTs ended the scoring. Muskegon wins their first Division 1 State Championship, 34-29.
Sr Charlotte signee Mariah Sain scored half of her team-high 14 points in the 4th qtr to key Muskegon's comeback and also gathered in 7 rebounds. 6'3" jr Dy'nasti Bell pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and scored 5 of her 7 points in the stretch run. Sr Oakland recruit Camiyah Bonner added 6 points and 3 steals, while sr Jackson College commit Jaila Martin pitched in 5 points and 6 rebounds.
Sr Jaebri'an Autry of Renaissance attacked the basket and boards aggressively to lead all scorers with 17 points and finish just short of a double-double with 8 rebounds. 6' soph Jayla Adams had 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots along with 4 points while going head-to-head with Bell all game long. Soph Kassidy Cain chipped in 5 points.

Game 1:
Ishpeming built an early 12-4 lead, but Portland St. Patrick cut it to 14-13 by the end of the 1st. Ishpeming ramped up their defense and held St. Patrick scoreless until the 6:05 mark of the 3rd qtr as they scored 20 straight to open up a 34-13 lead. St. Patrick used an 8-pt run spanning the quarter break to pull back within 36-24, but Ishpeming went on an 8-pt run of their own a little while later to extend the margin into the twenties at 48-26 late in the 4th. Ishpeming wins the Division 4 State Championship 48-28. This is Ishpeming's 2nd title in 3 years.
6'2" sr Baylor volleyball signee Mya Hemmer (pictured, top-r) dominated the paint, swatting shots, pursuing the basketball off the rim, elevating to score in a crowd, and stealing any pass within her reach. Hemmer finished 1 blocked shot shy of a triple-double with 18 points, 17 rebounds, 9 blocked shots, and 6 steals with a couple of assists thrown in for good measure.
