Game 3: Morenci used a 7-pt run to flip an early 2-pt deficit into a 9-4 lead and extended their edge to 10 at 16-6 early in the 2nd qtr. Ishpeming chipped away and eventually took the lead at 21-20 early in the 3rd, which kicked off a flurry of lead changes. A little later, Janessa Eagle hit a pull up jumper and then scored on a fast break layup to give Ishpeming their largest lead at 33-30. Colbie Ekins scored inside off an offensive rebound putback and Emersyn Bachelder hit a pair of FTs to put Morenci up 34-33 with 3:19 left. Mya Hemmer buried 2 FTs at 2:48 to give Ishpeming the lead back at 35-34. After numerous empty possessions each way, Camby Gauthier scored on a layup to increase Ishpeming's advantage to 3 with 0:34 remaining. Morenci had 2 opportunities to tie it, but Hemmer cleared the final rebound and dribbled out the clock. Ishpeming moves on to the Division 4 state championship game with a nail-biting 37-34 win. Sr Michigan Tech signee Jenessa Eagle (pictured, #3) buried multiple pull up jumpers and also got to the rim in tallying a game-high 20 points. Sr Baylor volleyball recruit Mya Hemmer (pictured, #14) was once again a beast inside with a 15-&-15 double-double with 5 steals and 4 blocked shots. Jr Colbie Ekins (pictured, #1) had an outstanding showing in her head-to-head battle with Hemmer, with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Sr Emersyn Bachelder (pictured, #33) hit 8-for-10 on FTs and was aggressive on the boards for a 14-&-12 double-double. Sr Evelyn Joughin (pictured, #2) added 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocked shots from the PG position. . Game 2: Lumen Christi scored the first 14 points of the game and led 29-10 at half. Brandywine and LC played an even 3rd qtr with 15 points apiece and Brandywine outscored them 18-17 in the 4th, but couldn't put a serious dent in the margin. Lumen Christi takes a 51-33 win and moves on to face Pewamo-Westphalia in the Division 3 state championship game. Soph Kenna Hunt (pictured, #1) was dynamic and impactful on both ends of the court in leading the way with 16 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds, and 7 steals as she flirted with a quadruple-double. Sr Lily Ganton hit a trio of 3s and contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Soph Lucy Wrozek scored all 10 of her points in the 1st half to help get Lumen Christi rolling. Fr Tristin Johnson came off the bench to chip in 7 points. Fr Zaya Price (pictured, top-r) led all scorers, using her length and athleticism to score around the basket and to square up in the air on her short to mid-range pull up jumper, as she finished 1 rebound shy of a double-double with 18-&-9. Jr Lily Gill added 7 points for Niles Brandywine. . Game 1: Roscommon took an early 4-pt lead, but Pewamo-Westphalia scored 11 straight to go up 13-6. Roscommon got within 3 early in the 2nd qtr, but P-W went on a 13-2 run to build a 26-12 lead late in the 1st half. P-W still led by 14 late in the 3rd, when Roscommon went on an 8-pt run to cut it to 33-27. Elly Bengel stopped their momentum with a huge 3-pt play for P-W and the margin oscillated between 7 & 9 with a layup each and a bunch of FTs. Pewamo-Westphalia wins 44-35 to move on to the Division 3 state championship game. Sr Lansing Community College recruit Elly Bengel (pictured, #22) hit a pair of 3s and used her athleticism and handles to get to the rim in putting up a game-high 20 points for P-W. Soph Adrianna Eklund pitched in 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots, while soph Elyse Thelen and sr Alonna Thelen added 7 & 5 points, respectively. Sr Mid-Michigan Community College signee Zoey Kauffman (pictured, #4) scored smoothly going to the basket and off the offensive glass as she recorded a team-high 16 points along with 5 rebounds. Jr Mara Williams added 9 points and 4 rebounds before spending much of the 2nd half on the bench after appearing to have banged her knee. Sr Alexis Carper led Roscommon in rebounding with 7. . D4 State Semifinal Portland St. Patrick (22-5) vs. Onekama (19-7) Portland St. Patrick came into the playoffs ranked #14. They beat Fulton, Fowler, Climax-Scotts, Muskegon CC, and Concord along their path to the Breslin. Onekama has been a dark horse defeating Mesick, Brethren, St. Charles, Sacred Heart, and Frankfort. Gracelyn Rockey, Macie Leonard, Callie Sinke, and Ava Mauntler are expected to be key prospects from both teams. @PGHMichigan @MHSAA
