For UR, DVC Dr @Rayndikumana, signs MoU with University Network for Strengthening Microfinance Resilience to Climate and Environmental Change: to boost multi-disciplinary academic & professional teaching & research for strengthening macrofinancial resilience to climate change.

A subsequent presentation from @onjalajosef on climate vulnerability in the east of Africa provoked a necessary conversation on the need for urgent adaptation finance in the region to reduce exposure to physical risks of climate change. (4/4)

Simultaneously, @GaiaLarsen, @hheubaum & Prof Mizan Khan of @ICCCAD trained participants on the functions and sources of adaptation finance alongside their political economy aspects, including why commitments often don’t materialise and how this can be overcome.

A lecture on macrofinancial risk by @YannisDafermos followed, in which he detailed how climate related risks transmit throughout the entire financial system. There is a need to better understand transition and physical risks in order to manage them effectively.

Day 1 of the University Network & RAMP, Adaptation Finance and Risk Management Workshop is complete ✅. The workshop brings together 9 global universities to build capacity in adaptation finance, disaster risk finance, climate risk and climate budgeting.

Executive Director Dr Rose Ngugi is this evening speaking at RAMP and University Network Adaptation Finance and Risk Management Workshop at a Nairobi Hotel. RAMP is a capacity building program aimed at addressing the numerous economic risks of climate change to economic dev't.
