I miss mastodons as much as the next guy, but what really get to me are all the birds that went extinct after humans got to America. Teratorns w/ 18-foot wingspans. Flightless diving ducks. Little flamingos.

@thenighttrain ha that's so cool! i love how one piece of curiosity could lead to a whole other thing remembering through outliter i saw you were leading those tours. i've done 1 through the historic preservation but overall a big fan of elmwood and all it has to offer

As a space nerd, I’m intrigued by this story but also curious of how this piece emerged 🧐 Thanks @thenighttrain for the thorough piece and hope this treasure is preserved. And hopefully knowledge from those folks are being documented before they are gone.

@are__see I was trying to find astronomers buried at Elmwood for a tour I wanted to do before the eclipse! Judge Hulbert was part of an early Detroit astronomical society in the 1890s. When I searched his name this place came up on Google Maps!

@are__see Just good luck that I found MHAS and learned they were working on this nomination. They have collected and created a lot of historical material about the place; UM has a lot of MHO material as well. but it’s still a race against time for sure. Glad you liked the story!
