Here is what they found: - A 10% slimmer America would translate to a 2% decline in airline weight. - A 2% decline in weight would translate to 1.5% in fuel savings. - A Boeing 737 Max 8, for example, with 178 passengers at 180 pounds each, and cargo, would weigh a total of 181,200 pounds. - A 10% drop in body weight would make the average weight 162 pounds, dropping the aircraft's total weight to 177,996 pounds. - This would lead to $580 million in fuel savings each year for American, Delta, Southwest and United.
