@SPMS1798 That is lamentable, for sure. To not have much of a selection to begin with, and then to get a bad one.

@thepopecast Yeah I’ve seen very good examples. Sadly not here in Scotland where we have 1 OSB where he could’ve made a bigger impact. He’s not got much competition.

Who said anything about rejecting diocesan life? On the discernment front surely it's a calling "to" and not a calling "away from". At any rate, when the nuncio calls it's absolutely an invitation into trial. For the good ones, at least. The ones who hope or plan for that call, though, are guys who bear fruit like +Martin.

@thepopecast I get that. But what about their rejection of living the diocesan life until they become ‘our boss’ and surely it goes against their choice of a particular way of life etc?

@SPMS1798 There's good cases to be made (see: Pope Leo) that religious priests govern better over certain situations because of their vow to uphold the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience in a way distinct from that of diocesan priests.

@thepopecast Why are they becoming bishops? And Diocesan bishops at that ?

They talk about Catholics being spiritually Irish or spiritually Italian but the third one is being spiritually Spanish, where you have lax behavior generally like Italian but when you go to church the weight of your guilt crushes you like the Irish.

@JosephVu495590 @HeffalumpOld To paraphrase St. Therese, that's like saying the world has too many flowers. Sure some are in need of pruning – some in need of total suppression – but they keep the world spinning with their prayers and sacrifice.

León XIV posee un carisma pontificio, justamente, muy pontificio, valga la redundancia. Muy distinto a la pereza que provocaba Francisco, pero también a la imagen de anciano sabio de Benedicto XVI, o al carisma de masas de Juan Pablo II. Me gusta mucho

Kneejerk reactions for right now I'd say: 1a. Dominicans 1b. Augustinians 2a. Benedictines of all stripes 2b. Franciscans of all stripes 2c. The silent/contemplative/cloistered orders (Carthusians, Trappists, Cistercians) Last: Jesuits (undeniable past contributions but they're just horrendous as an order now)

@JosephVu495590 @HeffalumpOld Oof that's a tough one. Would depend on what era we're talking about. Right now given all of each orders' history? Each order according to its high point? Just medieval era, just Renaissance era?

@thepopecast @HeffalumpOld Ironcially, it’s a stark contrast from Pope Leo, a fellow religious, an Augustinian who washed the feet of the priests.

@thepopecast Humility is having lay people have their feet washed. Not reserving it for the clergy.

@HeffalumpOld Given everything else +Martin has done since coming to Charlotte, this comes across as simply another dictation from on high. No humility.

@HeffalumpOld The irony is the issue. What he presumably thinks is a humble gesture – delegating the washing of the feet to lay people – is in fact arrogance and misses Jesus' entire point: that the "Son of Man does not come to be served but to serve"
