US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said China had been an unreliable global partner during the Middle East war by hoarding oil supplies and limiting exports of some goods, mirroring its actions with medical goods during the COVID-19 pandemic, per Reuters

This week, copper prices are back up above $6.00/lb., as industry participants gather for the world-leading annual CESCO copper conference in Santiago, Chile. The main topic of conversation in Santiago is the strategic importance of copper, which has been heightened following recent geopolitical events. It is no surprise that rumours have reemerged of a copper tariff on the way… This is supported by Comex (CME) copper prices trading again at a premium over LME prices, which continues to pull more copper to the USA… In addition, 33% of the global LME copper stocks are now inside the USA… but, how much of this copper inventory is freely available to the market ? Much less than the market thinks, because LME stocks are always held in strong hands and rarely freely available. People are focussed on oil and gas prices, but the most intelligent investors are taking the opportunity to buy copper… Global events have reminded us that we need to diversify our sources of energy… and copper is critical to every scenario. If anything copper’s importance has done nothing but increase.

BESSENT STATES CHINA IS AN UNRELIABLE PARTNER IN WAR; CHINA IS HOARDING OIL, BUYING MORE, AND STOPPING EXPORTS OF VARIOUS PRODUCTS.
