Hopefully now, with Iran giving prior warning to avoid civilian casualties in their response and Trump signaling it’s over, this can end. If this is the case, which is not at all clear yet, then we flirted with disaster for absolutely no reason. Iran didn’t have nukes and hadn’t made the decision to attempt to acquire them. This is according to the DNI Annual Threat Assessment, the CIA, and the IAEA. Nothing has demonstrably been gained by this. The Trump administration and the Israeli’s have been boasting about devastating Iran’s nuclear program but it’s completely unclear if that’s true, even to them. Even if they did destroy a lot of equipment, the Iranians can rebuild and the regime will remain in power, now more incentivized than ever, to get nuclear weapons.
