@sonyasupposedly you can make many people desist from all kinds of behavior with force, social pressure, or loss of opportunity. i don't think you can meaningfully disentangle regret from the context people live in

yes, the question is not merely "who will desist" but "who *would have* desisted quietly absent medical intervention" or "whose gender dysphoria is resolvable by means other than transition" hard to phrase this right but you know what I'm getting at x.com/_Chroma_/statu…

@sonyasupposedly It’s also important to distinguish between the regret rate and whether or not it’s long-term beneficial to the person. People love to rationalize why a bad decision was actually harmless or net beneficial. If they say they regret something, then it was a *really* bad choice.

@sonyasupposedly i remain convinced that the trans issue will be kept salient by raising whatever question is a scissor and has nothing to do with people's experience or what causes harm

everyone in the replies is praising this cat but isn’t one of the most celebrated works of English-language literature of all time specifically about how you shouldn’t let your entire life be consumed by fanatical resentment after an uncaring leviathan rips off your leg

5 months into her current incarnation, a car ran over Peggy's back right leg and crushed it beyond repair. 5 and a half years later, her favourite pastime is to sit atop the sofa and growl at every single car that passes.

so much of history is contingent on things that were not deterministic. many of the core features of the revolution, which still define our societies today, were flukes of french society.

the amazing thing about twitter is that it has reproduced class. people will transparently tolerate more and extend public defenses to large accounts that transgress social norms
