Nighttime tornadoes are especially dangerous. Before you go to bed, make sure you’re prepared. Charge your phone, keep shoes and a flashlight nearby, and know your safe place. Don’t let your safety plan fall asleep when you do. weather.gov/safety/tornado

We’re back at the Lake Township Volunteer Fire Department in Lake Village, which has become the central hub for tornado relief in the community. This morning we’ve been helping organize donations and assist families picking up supplies. Last night we purchased nearly $20,000 worth of generators, heaters, and propane tanks, and today we’ve begun distributing them to families dealing with cold temperatures and power outages. Thank you all for your continued support that makes this work possible. For more information about the Y’all Squad and how you can help please visit our website theyallsquad.org

We are in Merrillville tonight purchasing heaters, propane, and generators for families impacted by the devastating tornado in the Lake Village area. Temperatures across northern Indiana have dropped into the low 30s, creating an extremely difficult situation for families who have already lost their homes and power. Our goal right now is simple: get heat into the hands of people who need it most. Over the next few days we will be distributing these supplies throughout the community to help displaced families stay warm. This is only possible because of the incredible support from the Y’all Squad community. Thank you to everyone who continues to step up and help families when they need it most. If you would like to support the mission of the Y’all Squad, please consider making a tax deductible donation at theyallsquad.org.

We are currently in Lake Village working alongside local officials and first responders following the deadly tornado that struck this community. The Lake Township Volunteer Fire Department has become the central hub for donations, and the response from the community has been incredible. Supplies are pouring in as people from across the region step up to help families who were impacted. Thanks to the support of the Y’all Squad community, we are preparing to purchase additional relief supplies once we receive a finalized list of needs from local officials. If you would like to continue supporting families affected by these tornadoes, please consider making a tax deductible donation at theyallsquad.org

Our team has just arrived in Aroma Park, Illinois, and the damage here is catastrophic. Nearly every home in this neighborhood has significant damage, and some have been completely destroyed. Numerous crews are already on the ground working to clear debris, restore utilities, and begin the recovery process. Kankakee County has also established shelters for displaced residents as cold rain continues to move through the area. One important request: please do not travel to Aroma Park to look at the damage. Roads are extremely limited, and response crews need space to work safely and efficiently. If you are not a resident, first responder, or directly assisting a family with cleanup, please stay away from the area and allow crews to do their jobs. If you or someone you know was impacted by the storms in Aroma Park, please reach out to contact@theyallsquad.org and we will do everything we can to help. We will continue providing updates from the ground here in Kankakee County.

The Y'all Squad is currently at Union City High School, which is serving as a central hub for relief efforts in the community. Local officials, school staff, and volunteers are coordinating supply drop offs and meals for families affected by the tornado as well as volunteers helping with cleanup efforts around town. We are working to connect with officials here to better understand the needs on the ground and will share more updates soon.

We made it into Union City, Michigan just before midnight after a long day of travel and spent a couple hours beginning to assess the damage in neighborhoods impacted by the tornado. Even in the dark it was clear this small community took a very hard hit. In just the areas we were able to reach tonight we saw multiple spots with significant damage, along with crews working through the night to restore power across the area. Tomorrow we will continue assessing the situation in daylight and staying in contact with local officials as we focus on helping families who were directly impacted. If you or someone you know in Union City was affected by the tornado, please reach out to contact@theyallsquad.org so we can see how we may be able to help. If you would like to support the relief efforts, you can make a tax deductible donation at theyallsquad.org.

During a flood, water levels and the rate at which the water is flowing can quickly change. Get to higher ground. Do not drive or walk into water. It only takes 6 inches of water to knock you off your feet. weather.gov/safety/flood
