There is no nationalist equivalent to a regional paper which so myopically focuses on unionist desires and interests, and which sets itself a crusading role in that regard. The Irish News’ circulation would suffer a similar fate to the News Letter if it endeavoured to do so.

“A [NI] lacking either the News Letter or the Irish News would be structurally different. There is an equilibrium to having 2 staunchly ideological papers alongside a [Tele] which is open to all viewpoints.” The Irish News is *much* closer to the Tele than to the News Letter.

@think__32 It's almost as if there is a sense of disappointment that Unionists are not up in arms about the Fleadh in Belfast, sorry they aren't ....some will attend, some won't. It will have little effect on life in NI by second week in August.

There is a real sense of begrudgery around the Fleadh taking place in Belfast. You'd almost think they'd be happier it didnt take place. This was something they couldn't stop. #JoinTheConversation #think32

Every word of this could be used by nationalists in reverse to object to the Union Flag. That TUV reps are blinded by their prejudice to the irony should surprise no one. Both national flags are cherished by people here & will have a place long into our future.

@think__32 Unionist councillors did not vote yes simply because pipe band organisers said they didn't mind. They raised concerns about timing, consultation and costs, those issues were cleared up and they voted yes. Two independent unionists voted no.

@think__32 You do know the DUP and UUP voted for the Fleadh in Bangor. Blaming unionists for Casement Park not being built is not factual. The delays were caused first by locals challenging the planning, revised designs, political deadlock, and spiralling costs. Funding the final nail 1/2

If Squeak wants Translink to give equal prominence to events surrounding the 12 of July, how about the risk to life, homes burnt to the ground and a carnival of sectarianism and racism on bonfire night and during the parades?...

With some calling for equality from Translink and the new Irish language signage for the Fleadh goers this might be how Grand Central Station might look if Translink agree to put signage up to highlight the 12th July next year?

@rabgee101 When political unionism would cut off its own nose to spite its face over Casement and the opportunity to host Euros final matches you can bet your bottom dollar this would ve been cancelled had they the say.

@think__32 The only one seeing "begrudgery" is someone wearing the cloak of victimhood as usual. The Fleadh is going ahead, thousands will attend, and Belfast will benefit. Not everyone has to be interested, and that isn't opposition. Throw off the victimhood cloak and enjoy the occasion.
