When I'm buying cards I like to play a minigame with myself on how low I can get my cart's final total.
...and then I'll need to spend double that in parking/gas/transit to pick the cards up

while i don't judge people who engage with games differently than i do, occasionally after someone finds out i play magic, i get asked if i also collect pokemon - no, the thought of spending money on cards that I don't intend to use as game pieces is completely foreign to me

@Cimoooooooo And Pkmn media is relatively simple. You can jump into any funnels and consequently it means you can transfer between those 3 vectors almost seamlessly. You can enjoy Pokemon in so many ways even just as a passive consumer
Yugioh...has a lot of issues with this and their synergy

@Cimoooooooo I think Pokemon's popularity is so well designed because it had both the characters and the Pokemon themselves you could love independent of one another and each new generations appealed to younger kids
And it did a splendid job keeping all three vectors show/TCG/game healthy

While GX was popular, it wasn’t centralized around the original characters (Yugi, Kaiba, etc) that got most people hooked on the franchise.
Imagine if Pokémon removed Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu immediately after Indigo. Would Pokémon have been nearly as popular? Hard to say.

@Remklovcire He's going into my low power Jund deck that is essentially a "I ramp and summon all my old dragons that are now retired and living their best lives"
But even in that one he kinda lowkey sticks out

@thinknuofficial See the trick is to just play the bad cards anyways. Unless you're trying to play cEDH let your deck reflect who you are. Will you lose some games because of suboptimal card choice yes but at least to me part of the fun of playing Commander is playing with the weird old cards.

Finally got the chance to watch the Paranormal Activity play. They adapted horror and found footage tropes so well to the stage. Pretty fun watch, highly recommend if you like the genre! Such a different experience from most plays.

@MTGAverageJoe He started in my Golgari deck as a token generator but was too clunky and I had more effecient token generators in the colors I wanted
Then he went into my elf deck as an early blocker than then as a token generator. But that deck relies more on 2 power monsters or 4+ power ones

@thinknuofficial I think the deck I most recently took it out of was Ebondeath. The idea being 2 mana, fight him, then use the land to help in recasting him from the grave.
Then just having a lad that will sometimes make a Golem token.

It's like...60% optimal in my 3 decks so it keeps getting put in and then taken out.
But I just love the visual of a giant hulking golem and then having smaller golems come out from its corpse.

@Natterforme Oh gawd I just cringed so hard looking at this thing. Middle school me totally would've 3000% played it just so I could be all YuGiOh and say "I sacrifice my two mountains to summon Rathi Dragon!!!!"

@CollinGollogly1 I'm constantly trying to tell this to myself as I'm building this super jank Jund deck with leftover cards. But even among that pile I have so many 4 cost dragons that are just way more effecient. But I'll keep my boi in there.

@thinknuofficial I think in a 100 card deck you have the space to play at least 1 entirely sub optimal card. I’ve had Edgar markov together since the day it came out, my first magic product ever was the RB Madness intro deck and Markov Dreadknight has been in that deck since it was sleeved 🤷🏼♂️

@MrdrMagnet I got into Magic during Onslaught and opening a booster to find a rare dragon was mindblowing to my middle school brain.
And then later opening Bladewing in Scourge with zero knowledge of the cardpool completely obliterated whatever precious grey matter I had left.
