@TheLastFarm Seconded, that was exactly my experience. The social justice and ecological gestures (as well as religious, moral) were so hollow, in retrospect, spliced onto the elaborate Zionist indoctrination curriculum. Truly maddening, so many thurs and suns

Everything interesting & worthwhile I’ve learned about Judaism I learned outside of Hebrew school. Maybe someday there will be an honest education available to young Jews, where we actually learn about the religion, its history, & its languages, like Yiddish, Ladino, & Aramaic

“Plant a tree in Israel” fundraising drives are so ubiquitous in American synagogues as to be a cliché. Young people are indoctrinated in a genocidal ideology that portrays these colonial tree planting schemes as civilizing missions, a part of Zionism’s divine mandate
Dr. Ghada Sasa, PhD 🇵🇸@drghadasasa

I just read the new Haaretz article about how Israeli planted pines are suddenly dying en masse and it is absolutely worth dissecting. Here are a summary & my observations as a Palestinian scholar who writes on green colonialism. 1/

For those unaware, SpaceX has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the Moon, as we can potentially achieve that in less than 10 years, whereas Mars would take 20+ years. The mission of SpaceX remains the same: extend consciousness and life as we know it to the stars. It is only possible to travel to Mars when the planets align every 26 months (six month trip time), whereas we can launch to the Moon every 10 days (2 day trip time). This means we can iterate much faster to complete a Moon city than a Mars city. That said, SpaceX will also strive to build a Mars city and begin doing so in about 5 to 7 years, but the overriding priority is securing the future of civilization and the Moon is faster.

About Biden's 100% tariffs... it's maddening how the very people who spent the last 40 years lecturing us all about "free trade"—and imposing it forcibly, often violently around the world—are happy to abandon it as soon as it's no longer in their class or national interests. "Competition drives innovation", they said. Except when you're losing. And indeed these tariffs are an admission that they're losing the innovation battle. A more effective response would be to gear up some proper industrial policy, with credit guidance and with real public finance in innovation (not just for EVs but more importantly for public transit, building insulation, efficiency improvements, recycling, etc), but they are totally blinded by their aversion to anything "socialist". It's embarrassing to watch.

@TheLastFarm Plus 2nd homes, conservation easements, just how annoying NYC crunchy granola hiker people are now, and the growing presence of consultants who try and sway planning boards and ‘neighbors’ to get onboard the solar train…rift is only getting deeper

@TheLastFarm Esp bc so much of the city’s energy goes to heating/cooling hyper inefficient office and luxury glass apartment buildings (with high vacancy rates) while the vast majority of the city lacks AC. Also impact of city’s trash on rural regions and city’s budget is enormous

A record $7 trillion in subsidies were given to fossil fuels in 2022. I frankly don’t want to hear about how cheap renewable energy is, how large an investment the IRA was or how many heats pumps were installed until there is a significant record low invested in fossil fuels.

The OECD put out a paper called the Global Material Resources Outlook to 2060, projecting how many materials the globe would use between now & 2060. They project a more than doubling of global material use across all continents, & NO absolute decoupling. oecd.org/env/global-mat…

What Hudbay Minerals is doing in Arizona’s Santa Rita mountains is an environmental atrocity. There is more biodiversity here than in Yellowstone (it’s not close). The Biden administration is derelict in its duty to protect these federal lands.
Russ McSpadden@PeccaryNotPig

Hudbay working hard to get this ridgeline of the Santa Rita Mountains prepped for mountaintop removal. This is part of the vast home range of the jaguar El Jefe and some of the most important, federally designated jaguar critical habitat in the United States.
