The fact that the Recording Academy people sat in a boardroom, looked at the most culturally, linguistically and musically diverse continent on Earth, and concluded that the solution was to throw everyone into one "Asian Pop" category is exactly why this deserves criticism. And then to turn around and say this category was created to "bring us closer" is ABSURD. Segregation has never brought people closer. Separate categories don't create equality, they create separate standards of recognition. Expressing disappointment in BTS for refusing to legitimize that system completely misses the point. If one of the biggest Asian artists in history says, "We don't want to be separated from everyone else," maybe the response should not be to accuse them of chasing press. No one is saying Asian artists deserve less recognition. They're saying they deserve the exact same opportunity to compete for the industry's highest honors without being boxed into a category based on geography or ethnicity. If your first instinct when discussing an entire continent is to create a separate lane instead of removing barriers from the main one, then you've fundamentally misunderstood what inclusion is supposed to look like.

one of the grammy members responsible for this asian pop category, tried to prove they aren't racist and that the category wasn't created for bts. but the grammys have been doing this for years: creating racial categories just to protect their darlings. they know damn well bts has no real competition in an asian category. their real motive was to use bts for views and sponsorship money, then hand them an asian award like a pacifier to send them home. rushing to introduce "best asian pop" in 2026, right when bts outclassed their favorites both critically and commercially, was purely done to isolate bts and block the only asian artist capable of competing in the general field. bts enlisted in 2022, so they had plenty of time. criticizing bts for having a backbone and condescendingly saying "you don't know how the grammys work" while labeling critics as "ignorant" only destroys their credibility further and proves bts's point.

Mind you BTS have been on hiatus for 4 years. Kpop (and other industries across the continent of Asia) never stopped releasing music But it’s only when BTS return that this “Asian pop” category is introduced To say that this is about inclusivity is just a bold faced lie
