This is a well-done and thoughtful intro to R, from data shaping/cleaning/visualizing (similar to R4DS) to performing different statistical analyses. I wish this existed when I started to learn and use R! @vangalenlab

@JogerstKristen The seemingly random definitions of random and fixed effects based on who you ask is too confusing for me to keep straight. I've adapted @StatModeling's renaming, using varying and constant instead since it makes more sense (see pg 20-21 in the paper here projecteuclid.org/journals/annal…)

Great threads on how to deal with nested, fixed, and random variables in your research analyses. One of the reasons I love G theory for education research is the URGenova software allows you to easily select which of your variables are nested vs not and fixed vs random.

@brodriguesco @eddelbuettel I had a similarish error a few months back. It resolved by switching x11() to use cairo rather than xlib display device (see rdocumentation.org/packages/grDev…) which I did by putting the below in my ~/.Rprofile. Hopefully works for you!

@eddelbuettel anyone on linux ever had that error message? "unable to start device X11". I confirm I'm on my desktop pc, not on a remote server over ssh.

mmmhh... installed R from source, now ESS doesn't want to plot (see pic). but it works from Rstudio or from a terminal. any ideas? #rstats (shamelessly tagging @eddelbuettel ) my google fu is failing me :(

Video recorders, especially those in the OR, record multiple small videos instead of one large one.
