hey, I'm genuine. I'm not fake. People need to take some responsibility on how they react to what people say online. Don't blame me if you get all stirred up and emotional about what I say.

@cungcung785 i agree to all that. but that's not enough either. it's easy to wish everyone well with good intentions, but if you adopt bad policies, you kill millions of people. mao made some very bad economic policies.

@thundaga99 Not enough. You need to care for the welfare of all your countrymen. You need to agree that everybody deserve affordable life. You also need to agree that poverty is everybody's problem, not just the state's.

@cungcung785 no. he was very smart. mao is still one of the most important figures in china's history. but he made some big mistakes. that's okay to say that. the CPC said itself in 1981.

I agree that China is a market economy, but the thing is, Mao Zedong hated markets. He was a Marxist, and a big part of Marx’s thesis was that markets are bad because they commodify labor and are inherently anarchistic. Mao and others who called themselves Marxists pushed for strict central planning of the economy. Deng, on the other hand, went in the complete opposite direction! When Mao called Deng a capitalist roader, he didn't mean that Deng wanted to let capital run China, he opposed Deng merely suggesting to introduce market reforms.

Mao Zedong is dead 50 years ago. The condition of today's China is different from five decades ago. The torch had been handed over to Deng. And from Deng to Jiang, Hu and now Xi. Mao and his all successors are all socialists. Because all of them believe their goal is to improve the life quality of their people. Not for profit or interest of certain group of people.

@bhulngmnde56812 Back in the 50s and 60s, when Mao was in charge, millions of Chinese people died from famine. So what right does he have to be upset about China in 2026, where, despite a wealth gap and some very poor people, at least millions aren’t starving to death?

Admittedly, I did a lot of trolling yesterday. I’m not sure what Mao would really think... maybe he’d be quite happy. But, in all seriousness, how do you reconcile what China is today with what Mao Zedong did and believed back then? You could argue he might have changed his mind, but his ideological extremism peaked before his death, so it’s hard to expect that. If he returned as his younger self, perhaps he’d be more pragmatic, after all, he worked with the KMT to defeat the Japanese. Still, I find it amusing that people think I’m absurd for suggesting Mao might not have liked what happened after he died, considering he twice purged Deng Xiaoping as a "capitalist roader." Heck, he even purged Xi Jinping's dad for pretty much the same reasons... what do you think Mao would think of his son who's at the helm now?
Thundaga@thundaga99

@CarlZha mao would be very angry at china today. capitalist roaders running the show haha

You should have stronger opinions on things. It's good to argue to find the truth. Yes, some younger Chinese (and non-Chinese) may have a romanticized view of the Cultural Revolution since they never experienced it firsthand, seeing it instead from the comfort of a much better China today. Also, the Cultural Revolution has a certain cool aesthetic appeal to it.

Hi. Overall, I think the Cultural Revolution was a very unfortunate period. Beyond the direct harm it caused to people, including deaths, it also damaged Chinese historical heritage and held China back for those ten years. The CPC itself recognised this by the 1980s, denouncing the Cultural Revolution and criticising Mao and his more cult-like followers for their extreme leftism. At the same time, I do think it probably took something as disastrous as the Great Leap Forward and the extremism of the Cultural Revolution to create the conditions for proper reform. As for reform and opening up, it seems obvious to me that it was the right move. If China had not taken that path, it may well have collapsed like the Soviet Union did in the 1990s. So I think history shows Deng made the right call in winding back Mao’s economic policies. Deng’s clever move was redefining socialism as “not being poor” under the banner of “socialism with Chinese characteristics.” That allowed him to bring market-based reforms under the socialist umbrella (which obviously wasn't textbook socialism) while still maintaining on some of Mao’s political ideas, especially one party rule, which I think has served China very well compared to western style democracy. The problem is that many people outside China focus too much on the “socialism” part, when they should probably pay much more attention to the “Chinese characteristics” part. Anyway that's my take. thanks

One strange thing about the pro-China camp when it comes to Deng Xiaoping is that they praise him for his military crackdown but rarely mention his economic reforms and opening up, which are largely responsible for China’s current state. Instead, they credit China as the realization of Mao Zedong’s socialist dream, even though Deng’s reforms contradicted Mao’s economic policies in almost every way. It’s quite odd, really.

@Heping97 @shzhshxh27236 @CarlZha sorry, your posts are littered with contradictions. Mao Zedong was at the helm during the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution that you just said killed countless people. Why would Mao curse me? I wasn't in charge at the time.

@Heping97 @shzhshxh27236 @CarlZha you don't understand. china's growth after 1978 happened because deng xiaoping removed mao zedong collectivisation of farming and also introduced special economic zones. that's very bad. that's against mao zedong thought!

it just makes sense. if you have people speaking all kinds of unintelligible dialects in the same country, it creates barriers and division. one thinks they're better than the other. very bad. a single mandarin is best, preferably dongbei without any "er" sounds. long live the prc
