Poverty is expensive in a way that people don’t understand. If you can’t afford a dentist you have long term teeth damage. Not affording healthy food means poor health. Not affording ‘good schools’ means missed opportunities. It is a compounding cycle.

I didn't think this was unpopular... but we are actually responsible for the emotional wellbeing of the people we claim to care about. That doesn't mean we carry all of their pain but it does mean our words and actions have an impact. Romantic, platonic, and familial relationships require a level of emotional accountability. And the truth is, they don't fail because people are too sensitive. They fail because too many people want connection without accountability for how they make others feel

At the direction of the U.S., the Honduran government under president Nasry Asfura has expelled its Cuban doctors from the country. The doctors were stationed at a free ophthalmological clinic in Colinas, Santa Bárbara and were part of the Operation Miracle program, which provided services to poor and vulnerable populations. Medical brigades have become one Cuba's most critical sources of income in the face of the U.S. blockade.
