Composition is the near-impossible search for the inevitable.

Do you think people who have a hard time committing to things also have a hard time writing melodies? And drift instead toward ambient methods?

What kind of people actually think they're having a "real" authentically human conversation on here? If I thought anything I ever posted would get more than 0-1 replies I'm pretty sure I would just...stop. Old news but for things that matter, this isn't actually "engagement".

Composition is the art of not losing the plot. The irony is that when working on stuff you often have to force yourself to lose a broken plot to fix it with the better one. Fully commit, then maybe surgically remove. Repeat.

"Karma Chameleon" is such a great example of pop's frequent contradictions. Boy George was so genre-pushing in style and sexuality while their signature jam is such harmonica-riffin, milk toast elevator soft rock. So many examples of this. No shade, just sayin.

@_Helios I can see this. In popular music, the middle 6 or bridge is often the most notable but because it acts as a singularity between the see-sawing of the verse/chorus (or strophic) dynamics on either side. It's there to refresh them of course (to your point).

@tignortronics If a song begins and ends well, it brings the middle to life, if the middle is great and the beginning or end are weak, it will negate the effort of the middle. Rinse, repeat.

Composers probably work on the endings of their pieces the most? If you don't like the end of your song the whole thing quite certainly sounds like a waste of time.

The most punk rock, anti-establishment, downright ballsy musical act in current America must certainly be the subway mariachi band dudes. Imagine having the guts.

@alexanderchen How do you ensure the exact same protagonist design gets used scene to scene? I found that challenging but maybe I don't get the workflow yet...

I now think maybe nothing can make you truly happy except the weather. Everything else is too full of *you* and thus infinitely fragile and fleeting and attached by strings. Only the impersonal oddity of a warm breeze and be enjoyed for what it is, nothing.

Found myself thinking about the tone of a guitar player I worked with a long time ago, for many years. Guitar players spend *so* much time thinking about their tone, it seemed the least I could do.

@_Helios That is very much the keyboard player's answer. Feeling that under the fingers with those helpful little raised black keys. We over here are looking for open strings...
