Farmers of X…
I’m looking for feed barriers that are universal for cattle and sheep. Easy to change around. Has anyone come across some or have any ideas?
Thanks in advance…

Thats a wrap for Autumn drilling. A big thank you to @chandlersfe for keeping the wheels turning @SOYLprecision for technical help on v rate stuff and as always the @ClaydonDrill has done its thing. W bean companion crop drilled down the leg for #SFI24
2. Autumn ploughed, power harrowed to level in spring, losing moisture, 75% germination then the rest came slowly after rain which was suppressed by beetle. Grew with high vigour, 5 ins taller than elsewhere and more branching, 2.1 t/ha
A tale of 3 linseed crops
1. Sheep grazed cover crop, left in one day too long after rain. Water stood rest of winter, had to surface cultivate, lost moisture, slow emergence, decimated by flax beetle. Disaster, 0.75 t/ha.
@mcfwill What are the drains like? If it’s wet it will lay cold and not grow early in the spring if it has any modern drains in it mole draining will transform it. After drainage lime then p+k
@farmermat1 We looked at one but was far too narrow for what I wanted we bought a teagle 8500 and put 2 120x70 bales in it side by side. I just dislike the electric controls I could feed it in far better with cable controls
Any views on why this field struggles to grow. Plenty of p patches from where cows have left deposits. So maybe locking up p for some reason. Its gone very yellow like it's water stressed... otherwise pH and nutrient applied as per. Adjacent field is our most productive.
#relaycroppping hit a home run in 2023
I'm not inventor of this just following in the foots of the great @john_kutz3 and @FLOLOfarms
Things just clicked.. Will probably never happen again
@FarmerSimonC I’m finding the same I think I put a lot of it down to better seed to soil contact especially where the Cambridge rolls turn causing a twisting action very like putting twisting your foot on a clod of soil
I have been trying to understand why my crops are so much better on the headlands for a while now. Better consolidation seems to create a better environment for plants to grow. Look at these tractor wheelings from harrowing in, Jan drilled wheat, the same effect.
@RTKfarmer We’ve got one for bagging sheep feed. I’m not entirely sure they are strong enough to be bounced about on the loader too much though for drill filling.
Came across these today. Perfect for filling drills with a vertical open lid as some Avatars and others have as the outlet is at the front not middle. Waterproof lids too.

If you are going to have a cropping disaster, at least if it’s beside a footpath everyone can laugh at the cock up, then enjoy the alternative afterwards!
