For the record I don’t hate trees. I just hate trees in stupid places. This particular tree is fine, however, a good example to those who love trees “on” the golf course. Tree roots compete with grass for water. They also, many times, creep far outside the drip line. Grass also hates shade.
PSA to the local golf course “tree committee” people (the worst committee idea ever drummed up BTW) If you ever plant trees on a golf course first figure out how big the tree will get, not how big it is today. Take another 15-20 feet beyond the future trees drip line and make sure that point is not reaching your fairway, tee or green. This will make future superintendents very happy and keep people like me from scheming to cut trees down. Also….if you want a memorial, don’t make a memorial out of something that dies like a tree….that’s dumb and defeats the purpose.
Thanks for listening.
