@emaann28 @JamieMi14887544 @XFreeze That literally makes no sense. Congestion is a function of two things by definition - how many things and in what space. If you increase the space, congestion decreases. What causes congestion is limited space and increased “things” or cars in this case.

Elon Musk on why tunnels became reality: “Everyone thought it was a joke. We made it a company” The idea behind The Boring Company is actually simple physics and geometry: Cities are becoming vertically 3D with massive skyscrapers and dense urban centers, yet transportation systems are still mostly trapped in 2D surface streets That mismatch creates unavoidable congestion A fully 3D transport network with tunnels running beneath cities could theoretically scale to almost any traffic level while dramatically reducing surface congestion Elon says there’s still enormous opportunity in tunneling and surprisingly only few companies taking it seriously

What is it with recent media companies and journalists restricting replies on their X posts. Making statements they don’t want scrutinised? Unwilling to engage in debate? There’s an increasingly fine line between propaganda and journalism today.

‘Readout’ of phone call between Rhun ap Iorwerth & Keir Starmer via statement from @WelshGovernment ⬇️ “The First Minister made clear he will wish to negotiate on the Barnett formula, fair funding, borrowing powers, rail and further devolution…   The Prime Minister confirmed that he would be open to a conversation on powers relating to devolution and proposed an in-person meeting in June with the First Ministers of Scotland and Northern Ireland to discuss issues of relevance”

@tweetwatcher761 @patrickkmaguire @MrHarryCole The G&D vote was a protest against the status quo. The vote with Burnham will be closer. He’ll run as the “I’ll get rid of Starmer” candidate. It might still be tough, but you can’t directly apply the G&D result. Different scenario.

@patrickkmaguire @MrHarryCole Labour recently lost Gorton and Denton despite an enormous majority in 2024. Labour’s majority in 2024 in Mackerfield wasn’t as large. Burnham is going to lose.

After 39 minutes on hold I have got through to HMRC to talk about erroneous interest charge on my self assesement. I can hear a baby in the background. After she spent 22 mins investigating, I was advised to write in as she couldn't help. This is simply not good enough.

And so it seems it's not just the PM who's out of touch with reality, but the entire Cabinet. That explains it.

Starmer is tone deaf. Working people: "We would like more money in our pocket. Life is too expensive. Reduce energy prices" Government: "We plan to nationalise British Steel and start the process of rejoining the EU or aligning more closely to it"

@ShippersUnbound It continues to baffle me that consecutive governments fail to do the most basic prioritisation activities. Of all the things burning in our society, they choose the most inane things to focus on.

As one of the chroniclers of Brexit, I am truly inspired by the lengths Nick Clegg, Ben Judah and others are going to in order to get me to write a fifth book. They can't actually believe they would win a Rejoin referendum, can they?

Listen to what Vaughan Gething told @ITVWales yesterday. How individuals in the Labour group were hard to manage. How the group were not sticking to collective responsibility. How he hopes Ken Skates will stand to be leader.

And, per my last post, this proves my point.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

I’m delighted to appoint @HarrietHarman as my Adviser on Women and Girls. Harriet is a strong advocate for women and girls and I know she will deliver greater opportunity for women in public life. I’m committed to tackling structural misogyny that is a barrier for too many women and girls. I look forward to working with Harriet to drive forward action on this important issue.

The problem is Labour doesn’t understand the working class - it’s a metropolitan middle class party. People just want a better life for themselves and their families. It’s about jobs and safety. Make life simple and enjoyable. The political class is seen as a threat to that.
Paul Mason@paulmasonnews

I don't want Keir to resign - nor do I want him to set a timetable for resigning - I want the Labour Party to diagnose its own problems and the wider fragmenting political landscape and face facts: working class people are in a zero sum game and we need to be on their side ... 1/

@WillHayCardiff It’ll depend how Plaid manage to replicate the “anyone but Reform” message that they used in Caerphilly. Difficult to do at scale but still no clear path for a Reform govt in Wales either way.

Brand new polling for Wales puts Plaid ahead of Reform. This is likely the last big poll before the election. Full breakdown in my pinned tweet.

@MissJilianne Also worth noting the $250 annual pass covers a vehicle plus up to 4 adults inside. So if you visit multiple days or multiple parks as many tourists will, it’s extraordinarily good value. In reality the $100 would only be charged to a single person on a single day entry.

@MissJilianne Not really. As a foreigner you come as a “captive audience”- This is a commercial reality. US citizens already pay for part of it through taxes. Us foreigners don’t. There’s also a congestion issue in Yosemite in particular - so this could help while maintaining revenue.

I think it’s disgusting the United States charges $100 per person visiting our country to enter a National Park. Embarrassing too!

@cmwrawcliffe It’s not economically illiterate if your business is viable in current circumstances. If you put successful businesses out of business, it’s the govt policy which is economically illiterate. The Lab govt unfortunately started it with tax credits, creating a state subsidy.

If you can't pay people a wage they can live on, your business is subsidised by the state. And that's NOT a sound business model. The economically illiterate person is you, pretending to be a good businessman while expecting others to support you through their taxes .
Peter McCormack 🏴‍☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪@PeterMcCormack

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.
