I spend a lot of time pointing this out to people. Social housing pays for itself, the reason it’s cheap is there’s no profit margin, and a lot was built a long time ago.
Peter Apps@PeteApps

A quick lesson in housing finance: Social tenants' rents aren't subsidised by your taxes. In fact, they cover the cost of maintaining the home, a chunk of the cost of building new ones and contribute to capital repairs to properties they don't live in

Alan Bates turned down an OBE as Paula Vennells, the woman in charge of the Post Office through the Horizon Scandal, retains her CBE and refuses to give it back. A man of honour 🙏🏼❤️ #MrBatesVsThePostOffice #PostOfficeScandal Alan, 69: “The first thing that sprang to my mind while reading the letter (offering me an OBE) was Paula Vennells still had a CBE. I felt so deeply insulted. She presided over a policy of harassing hundreds of innocent people. It’s not just that the Government hasn’t asked her to return it. What’s even worse is that despite knowing the strength of feeling about it, how people have suffered and some cases died on her watch – she doesn’t feel inclined to give it back.” Alan accepted a @PrideOfBritain award in 2023. We were over the moon to give that to him. Not all heros wear capes 💜 @DailyMirror mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/p…

Al Gore, "I find it shocking, really disappointing, I think Rishi Sunak has done the wrong thing.. Fossil fuel companies have used their wealth to slow things down.. They're much better at capturing politicians than emissions.. You can tell when they've captured one"

Just over 2 years ago, Martha Mills died in hospital of sepsis. Her tragic death was avoidable and is leading to the introduction of Martha’s law - a right for families to get second opinions. She died because of a hospital culture – where questioning and challenge were not routine and speaking up was difficult. The law may be changing but its our culture which needs to change. Everyone of us who works in hospitals, has to ask ourselves, what more can I do to help change the way we work so that others don’t die for the same reason Martha died. We owe it to her. She deserves nothing less. In this week’s Mail’s health section, I look at why Martha died and how future deaths could be avoided.

First they came for the refugees, then they came for drag queens and trans men & women, next up was protesters, then they came for lawyers, next was the turn of climate presenters and national treasures, and now they’ve come for sports presenters. You don’t have to agree with all of the above, but you do need to defend their rights, because if you don’t, then when they come for you too, who’ll still want to stand at your side. Put aside your prejudices, hatred and fear is their weapon of choice, rise above it, you’re better that this, and them. The Government are systematically targeting dissent and silencing criticism, they’re controlling our public broadcaster, and the narrative, because that’s all they have left. This is a pivotal moment, a slice of history, you only need to decide if you want to be able to hold your head high and say that you stood against tyranny and creeping fascism, or forever regret enabling it. #FascismCreeps #ToriesOut #ImwithGaryLineker #BBC #GeneralElectionNow #MOTD #Corruption
