@lukedsimmons Really great, I like the template and we do similar. What do you give baptizees as far as next steps in their faith?

"I've never seen a church do baptisms like this." It's a comment we get from people a lot. While I'm not sure our approach is unique, I do think it's really good. Why? Almost everyone who is baptized has their story shared beforehand. Here's how & why we do it: WHY: 1. It makes it far more personal 2. It's another fresh way to share the gospel 3. It allows friends and families to rejoice more specifically 4. It takes a lot of pressure off the sermon having to be a home run 5. It trains new Christians to share their testimony. HOW: A. We don't require it (that would be adding a requirement to baptism that the Bible doesn't). B. When people request baptism, we give them the choice: (1) share their own story (2) have somebody else read their story (3) no story. We strongly advise #1-2 but sometimes people pick #3. C. We give them a basic template: (1) Without Jesus, my life has been marked by ___ (2) God took ahold of my life through ___ (3) Jesus is my treasure because ___ (4) Jesus is changing my life by ___ (5) I want to be baptized because ___ D. When a pastor meets with them to approve the baptism, we help them refine their story. E. In the service, after the sermon, we share the stories. Then part-way through the following song, each person gets in the tank and is baptized. — Baptisms of any kind are moving and powerful. There's a reason every Christian loves Baptism Sundays. But it's even more powerful when you get to hear the stories of life change and transformation. Follow me @lukedsimmons for more resources for faithful and fruitful church leadership.
