WePlanet@weplanetint

We’ve helped stop Belgium’s nuclear shutdown! After years of sustained campaigning — with WePlanet leading this effort alongside allies since 2021, and many individuals within our movement advocating for even longer — we are now seeing real results. Two months after WePlanet won a court injunction freezing demolition, the Belgian government has ordered an immediate halt to all nuclear decommissioning work. And it has entered talks to take control of all seven of the country’s reactors. This is a huge moment: a historic shift in Belgian energy policy, and a sign that the nuclear debate across Europe is changing fast. And it came just in time. Within weeks, critical equipment at the Tihange 1 plant was set to be removed – a point of no return. Replacing that low-carbon power with gas would have locked the country into fossil fuel dependence for another generation. To everyone who showed up at rallies, signed petitions, wrote to decision-makers and donated towards our work – thank you. This is your win. There is more work to do in the months ahead. The government’s negotiations with nuclear operator Engie will run until October 1st. Regulatory approval is required. And anti-nuclear organisations are already mobilising to reverse the decision. But the direction is clear: Belgium is choosing reliable, clean, domestic power over imported gas – and setting a vital precedent for Europe. Nuclear and renewables. That's the grid we're fighting for.

Unions don’t even pretend to reward excellence. They exist to shield the worst performers and force the entire group down to their level. (And launder money for political parties)

🇺🇦 It’s clear that Ukraine, despite the sabotage from Trump and some European leaders, has overcome the 2024–2025 crisis, managed to halt the Russian advance, and is now winning the war of attrition. 🇷🇺 Russia, on the other hand, is stuck in an operational deadlock with no clear strategy for what to do next. Right now it looks like Putin has five options: 1⃣ Attack the Baltics. In theory, Putin could scrape together whatever combat-effective equipment is left, seize the Suwalki Gap, and then immediately start fast-track negotiations to trade the Baltics for Ukraine. Extremely risky and completely out of character for Putin. 2⃣ Use nuclear weapons on Ukrainian territory. Extremely risky - it would turn everyone against Russia, even those who are currently staying neutral. Plus, Russia could easily get hit in return (and Ukraine would be helped to acquire nuclear weapons extremely quickly). 3⃣ Mobilization. Putin could try to rapidly build up forces and push where Ukrainian positions aren’t strongly fortified. In Russia this would be received very negatively, and defeatist moods would spike noticeably. 4⃣ Agree to a ceasefire on current terms. In reality, Putin could actually get a fantastic deal right now (assuming Ukraine doesn’t change its mind - and the chances of that are growing every day). But Putin is unlikely to accept it; for him personally, it would be a clear defeat. 5⃣ Do nothing. Putin’s favorite solution whenever he faces a tough decision. Just wait for a miracle (like a U.S. - Iran war, for example). Maybe everything will blow over, or maybe a catastrophe will hit and he’ll be forced to go back to options 1–4. ⁉️AI says people can't read long texts anymore, so if you've read this far, please like and follow.

Lads. You don't understand. It's the /Twaite Shad/. We have to make a nuclear power station much harder and more expensive to build because of the Twait Shad's conservation status. What conservation status? Oh

In Europe, it took less than a month for Orbán’s illiberal bloc to collapse, and both Fico and Babiš are now supporting Ukraine’s accession to the EU. It is a clear example of how a cult of personality dissipates after the “great leader” is stripped of power. The same will happen to Trump.

Your mother is problematic. Your father is problematic. Your son is problematic. Your aunt is problematic. The cashier at the local Tesco is problematic. You've probably bought a cookie from a bakery made by hands that have done unspeakable things. Every chocolate bar you've ever eaten has probably killed a 7 year old child slave in Cameroon. The gas that drives your car is fueled by engines of death. Every person who has ever smiled at you in the streets has committed some act that if you knew about it, would make you profoundly dislike them. We have all been bad, small, petty, unlikeable, cruel, downright mean. Authors are not special "problematic" beings, they're just more public. Part of being an adult is recognizing that without mercy for our fellow human beings, and ourselves, we'd all be condemned to death. Reading fiction should help us understand that we're all irreparably tainted with evil, every system is corrupted, every line is broken. And like, that's okay. That's what it means to be alive.

honestly i'm this close to quitting reading for good. every single author i actually love turns out to be problematic or worse. i'm so tired of finding out after i already got attached. feels like i can't enjoy anything anymore without a background check first
