I guess my point is, given the volatile position the show is in right now - I'd rather the episode is cancelled or delayed, rather than one being pushed out. It's not even to do with the quality, it just needs to be exactly the right KIND of episode to begin to rebuild the show.

Hmmmmm. I can see this being true, but also think it's completely possible for an episode to be ready in time for Christmas if filming started in August/September. I guess the question is - would it be the right kind of episode to wrap up an era, with less production time?
TV Zone@tvukzone

The Sun are reporting that the #DoctorWho Christmas special might be "scrapped" or pushed back to Easter 2027. TV Zone has approached the BBC for comment.

The most impressive part of The Mandalorian & Grogu box office is that Disney got people back into cinemas for a Star Wars film built from a streaming series. That was NOT guaranteed. If audience scores hold, this could have serious success through the summer. #TheMandalorian

@BenoitBlancFan Why screenshot & not repost? 🤔 I say that not for credit, but because your screenshot loses the reasoning I offer in the following tweets.

@Locopells I will always love RTD2 for the classic villains it brought back - but that’s part of the problem in itself - it’s for the fans only!

@timelesschild Which is not to say you can't USE the lore - but there's a balance to be found between "guy in a dodgy costume" and "CGI monster" - and if you're gonna drag back an obscure villain from the 70s, figure out a way to explain them properly...

Doctor Who should pay very close attention to what The Mandalorian & Grogu is doing, because I honestly think it understands the modern audience better than a lot of legacy franchises do right now. Here's why... #StarWars #TheMandalorian #DoctorWho

@timelesschild That’s how Classic Doctor Who (or 20th C TV in general) worked, really. Most shows were structured around single episodes with familiar story elements. You generally didn’t need to know what happened last week, last month, or 40 years ago to understand what you were watching.

Thasmin and Djarins’s Age Of Maul!
One of the best threads I have seen. Big fan of Clan Mudhorn but this thread is showing the same points I have regarding Doctor Who right now & this & of course Maul: Shadow Lord are doing what Doctor Who needs to do. This will be a theme of the podcast so stay tuned.

You can’t delight everyone any more, but you can satisfy most people. That’s the lane Doctor Who needs right now: give existing fans something they like, while offering a safe, accessible jumping-on point for a new generation. Respect the lore, don’t depend on it.

That’s why The Mandalorian and Grogu works. It's not trying to win people over with lore, continuity or huge “event” storytelling. It's simple, emotional, funny and easy to jump into. Some fans understandably will call that “safe”. But that’s how you build a new generation.

I loved this film. A whimsical adventure with 2 of my favourite characters. 🥹 It isn’t groundbreaking, but not every film needs to be. Overall, it’s just so much fun. And maybe, to relaunch SW on the big screen, playing it ‘safe’ is a good move. 💛 #TheMandalorian #StarWars

@tuvya68 I think the crux of our disagreement is that I believe it wasn’t common for shows to hop genres in the 60s. But it’s perfectly fine for us to disagree.

@timelesschild I disagree with your take. Of course many shows offered week to week changes in themes. And yes, Doctor Who had long term legs - but you still haven't identified what was unique about it that gave it those legs that is in the last 2 Doctor's episodes.

I honestly think 15's era is some of the most quintessential Doctor Who the modern show has done. It fully embraces the classic 'adventure of the week' format: constant genre-hopping, standalone concepts, and wildly different tones every episode.

@tuvya68 It wasn’t usual for shows to hop genres every week. Yes, TV was often standalone episodes, but there’s a reason the show became so successful, and has survived the test of time.

@timelesschild The parts you say are the same are the same parts it shares with 99% of any TV show from the time Classic Who was on TV. Nothing about that is Classic Who related Either you are dishonest or you haven't watched much Doctor Who.

@thephantom76 I totally understand if you don’t enjoy it, but I think it’s a separate argument and a big leap in your sentences. To my point on genre hopping, musicals are a legitimate and serious genre, and fans have always wanted a musical episode. It’s obviously okay not to enjoy it though!

@keithburton16 I guess this is consistent with my point in the sense that these episodes weren’t aired with any consideration for the flow of the series. I love The Devil’s Chord, and am not keen on Space Babies, but I don’t think either would be as criticised if they didn’t kick off the era.

@timelesschild I certainly agree about some episodes. But opening your new era with Space Babies and The Devils Chord killed it stone dead. They were embarrassingly bad and immediately alienated both the Not-We and the fans. The two worst episodes ever to go out under the #DoctorWho banner.
