There is lots of criticism of the wemustactnow.ai letter on AI to which I am a signatory to because of lack of specifics. You know why? As far as I know there has not been a single paper in regulatory economics on the details of regulating AI to counter potential risks.

Thrilled to share I'll be joining UC Berkeley next year as an assistant professor in @UCBStatistics and affiliated with @Berkeley_EECS. My research will build methods to test/improve the implicit world models of AI systems, so that they reflect reality and human understanding.

We will be presenting our poster today at 4-5pm at the #SPIGM workshop at #ICML2026. If you are working on diffusion for text, either using discrete or continuous space approaches, you will find our results interested. Come chat with us. With @rozonoyer96703 and Jacopo Minniti.

What if diffusion models could think ahead instead of being greedy at every step?🤔 We introduce: Learned Relay Representations for Forward-Thinking Discrete Diffusion Models

A good resource for anyone working on agent harness optimization!
Lilian Weng@lilianweng

new post on harness engineering for AI self-improvement: lilianweng.github.io/posts/2026-07-… It is hard to forecast how much the future of RSI will rely on harnesses. Likely harness engineering will evolve in the direction of self-improvement and enable auto-research, and, in turn, smarter models keeps harnesses simple. Even when many harness improvement get eventually internalized into core model, the need to specify goals and context will not disappear.

Excited to share I'm joining Schmidt Sciences full time as a grantmaker! Now more than ever, we need scientific research on AI systems, not just new system cards. I'll keep an affiliation with StanfordNLP. There's no better way to keep up with research than to do some yourself!

Anthropic has published a new policy framework for frontier AI. I’m happy to see it! Importantly, it takes seriously the need to sometimes stop AI companies from taking actions that pose a substantial risk of catastrophic harm. There are also some areas where it could be improved.

Relay is architecture-agnostic, leaves inference decoding unchanged, and composes with block diffusion + KV caching. It's a simple drop-in for existing MDMs!

Why does BPTT help? At the same threshold, Relay commits more cells per step while keeping the board legal: 74.8% fully-legal boards vs 70.7% without BPTT. We reach the same level of accuracy but in fewer steps (using more aggressive unmasking).
