A lot of autistic people are upset at how often we get infantilized, rightfully so. I'm ngl though at the same time I hate how often I get derided for having "childish" interests. Like liking stuffed animals, or occasionally wanting to watch Blues Clues.

Thanks for the dogpile everyone! I've deleted the tweet and properly changed my opinion like a good girl. And I'll never write clarification tweets again since apparently people just disregard them.

I was being hyperbolic here but at the time I learned of this issue people were very wary when this happened and talked about how if you're gonna do it you should consult people from that group and or get writers from that group to help you write.

I thought it was the prevailing progressive opinion that you shouldn't write about the experience of a marginalized person if you don't belong to that group. I guess not anymore?

@stefisgirlnow @422kit This. Trans men and trans women share the same *base* trans experience; having a gender/sex coercively placed on us and wanting to transition. But trans men and trans women also have their own unique experiences. Like I'll never know what it's like to experience /1

really not a fan of the idea going around that trans men & trans women cannot have overlapping experiences at all whatsoever & that means we should hate each other

@422kit Tbh the issue isn't the overlap, it's when people try and speak with authority on the part that doesn't overlap with authority. It leads to stuff like reproducing harmful tropes which leads to infighting, if you want to call it that.

One more thing. Both trans men and trans women share the same base experience of being trans. However, we also both experience our own unique things. Like I'll never know what it's like to experience antitransmasculinity for example. It's okay to acknowledge this.

I'll just say this; I am immediately wary of art about a trans woman when it's made by a non trans woman. I might engage with it and absolutely love it. But it doesn't mean I won't immediately be wary of it in a world where our depictions created by non trans women are so /1

@wulfhildaa A little bit I'd say. I didn't even have thoughts like that I don't think until I learned about the existence of trans women.

@tinybird420 I mean, I do recall fantasizing about being a girl when I was 12. Is that a conscious inkling that I was trans? I don’t know how much more of one you could have if you didn’t know what “trans” was.

Did any other autistic trans people have an experience like mine? I literally had 0 conscious inkling that I was trans until I first learned about the existence of trans people in my early 20s and then came out at 24 in 2016. Before then I just always thought I was ugly. And /1

yes, very relatable. alexithymia is why "you (dont) need dysphoria to be trans) is always going to be a reductive statement requiring unpacking when combined with individuals' perceptions because if i couldnt even identify "normal" emotions without, like, concentrated learning, why would dysphoria be any more obvious?

Many tme queer/trans people don't care about actually being in community with trans women, they can't see them as anything more than symbols of martyrdom. People who spend the whole year being casually transmisogynistic will be posting pictures of Marsha P. Johnson on June 1st.
