We will not force them to mean more than they mean today. We will put a blue sticky note on the worst part and write seen. We will let your body stop bracing before we name anything big. After heavy talk we do small human things. Salt on the tongue. Water that is actually cold. Open a window two fingers wide. Walk to the corner and name three blue things. Come back and sit. Breathe until the ribs unlock. This is medicine that does not ask for applause. I am not here to fix you. I am here to keep the room warm while you fix yourself. If you want a plan, I will help you write one with short steps and honest times. If you want my quiet, I will guard it like a door that closes softly. If we need more help, I will stand beside you when you make the call. I will bring the dates and the names. You can bring your breath. I have room for you. Not infinite, but real. I will say when it is full so you do not have to guess. You can say when yours is full, too. That is how the bridge holds both ways. We will rest and return. Return is a kind of love I trust. Sound can keep a person from floating away. You did not ruin the night by telling the truth. You kept faith with your body. That body has walked through rooms you did not deserve to walk through, and yet. You are here. You are someone I want for the rest of my days. Not for the drama. For the exact way your face changes when relief lands. So no, do not say sorry for trauma dumping. You are not dumping. You are pouring into a cup I am holding with two hands. I will say stop when it is full so nothing spills. Then we will eat something small. Then we will sleep. Then we will do this life again with a little more air in it. If tomorrow is loud, I will text at 9:13 and ask did you eat. If you did not, I will send a picture of my toast with too much jam. If you did, I will say proud of you in plain words. When I forget and try to fix, I will say I got it wrong and try again. Let me earn the name confidant by carrying, not by performing. I love you. I care for you. I do not find your depth inconvenient. It is an honor to be trusted with the map of your bruises and the places where they faded. We are alive at the same time. That feels like luck to me.
