Following my previous Tweets (attached) and chat with @RAIL and others, I have put together a quick ‘Then & Now’ collection. Google street view gets the ‘Now’ locations near enough... Near the German Gym at Kings Cross (1 of 2)

Following earlier tweets from @RAIL and @pipdunn about Kings Cross in the bad old days, I’ve quickly taken photos of some of my slides taken in 1991 & 92: Batch 1 of 5 (1991)

Grass cut so time for a treat! (Before anyone asks, I’ve had this glass for a number of years so it HASN’T been acquired from any local drinking establishments that might have recently started serving San Miguel 😆)

@josh_snares What about Brian Cant? Presenter for children’s programmes like Play School and Play Away in the 70s when I was growing up. One of many childhood icons.

Having a missing episodes day in preparation for tomorrow. Oh the nostalgia of the Lost in Time box set.

Here is a piece of railway journalism by Roger Ford “at its absolute best” in the latest edition of MR. The “very high standard set”keeps the reader interested from start to finish, with the facts, tables and photos. All credit to Roger and the team at MR for a brilliant article.

Am I the only person who finds it bizarre that the US is still using B52s? Ancient tech. Entered service in the mid-1950s. Used in Vietnam. For comparison, the UK pensioned off its Canberras two decades ago

Exactly. It is a management choice. Lots of TOCs leave their trains open for pax to board.
@

@railnigel I FOId them on this, and some of the station operators. There is no Northern instruction that anyone can actually find that requires trains to be locked/unavailable at a station. It seems to have developed as internal culture with a mythical belief that somehow it's safety.

@gceccles @Captain_Deltic @SouthernRailUK One of my pet hates on GatEx liveried 387s is the lack of obvious signage (a nice yellow stripe at cant rail would be useful) of first class. Just a small bit of text at waist height. The fact that it’s only one end makes it a real pain.

0913 Brighton to Southampton. Platform 2. Worked by “Gatwick Express” stock. Elderly gentleman (not me!) hastily gets off the train just before departure. Says he thought it was a London train. Branding on @SouthernRailUK really makes little sense.

@Charing_Steve Wow! What illustrations company. Will have to try attending next time. Today I was otherwise occupied visiting an art exhibition at which my daughter Martha had some of her work on display. Just a stone’s throw from my favourite pub in Lewes too!
