The magnificent MCAAD, across from the White House 🏦 When surveyed publicly, only 31% of Americans think the American Dream is real, but privately 70% do. The supermajority is proud to be American but won't fly the flag. The disconnect is especially strong among young Democrats, a phenomenon Todd Rose wrote about in his book Collective Illusions. It is fostered on social media by campaigns funded by the CCP to undermine the West and drive election results such as in New York today. It is also fostered by campaigns to redefine the American Dream so that it rings hollow — as an equality of outcomes vs. opportunities. While the unraveling of progress has been tragically easy for foreign influence to exploit, it also affords an opportunity to renew the American Dream by tapping into the latent, but silent beliefs of the supermajority. Expect a number of campaigns on that front connected to the 250th anniversary of America in 2026. The Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream (MCAAD) aims to serve as a beacon to preserve the ideal that everyone, everywhere should have equal opportunity to pursue a life of meaning and fulfillment. Here are four photos from May, when it was under construction, and again this weekend for a special dinner with Milken and some amazing patriots: 1) Creative use of screens… the framed “paintings” of the Presidents speak to guests as they pass by, as in Harry Potter. An array of modern heroes of the American Dream abound (like @ElonMusk), even in interactive holograms. I contributed a video interview too. 2) The building was originally the Riggs Bank, with safe deposit boxes still in place for Abraham Lincoln and many Presidents that followed. 3) The tree of screens — like a Burning Man installation of yore, each leaf has its own IP address and guests can upload a selfie while there. For our dinner party, it was transformed for the attendees. 4) “I Dream of Better Futures” This was one of my favorites. Guests see an array of large mirrors with test strobing by too fast to read. But if they take a photo, they see clear text, but a random and unique selection each time. As a co-founder of Future Ventures, mine seemed like providence. :) • MCAAD: milkeninstitute.org/milken-center-… • Collective Illusions book: toddrose.com/collectiveillu…

I enjoyed reading this article by @eliza_relman for @BusinessInsider that profiled our work at Populace. We discussed the findings from our most recent study: the Social Pressure Index. This research confirmed that an alarming majority of Americans — regardless of age, gender, race, income, and political party — are self-silencing. You can find the complete Social Pressure Index report at Populace.org/research. Check out the full article from Business Insider here: businessinsider.com/democrats-repu…

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with @evanbaehr for his new series, "In the Arena," which delves into the major challenges facing our country and the entrepreneurs stepping up to address them. In this episode, we had a great conversation about the implications of false consensus, the limitations of existing institutions, and the crucial need for greater individual autonomy. I firmly believe—and research from my think tank, Populace, confirms—that we are ready to break free from systems and institutions that prioritize control and conformity. We are ready for something better: for positive-sum systems that prioritize autonomy, individuality, and cooperation for mutual benefit. Thank you to @evanbaehr and @freethinkmedia for putting together this great episode. youtu.be/0ck7mqYnmq0

Collective Illusions and self-silencing are everywhere  — even made aware in @Netflix’s latest release #NobodyWantsThis starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, created by Erin Foster and produced by @saramfoster (who I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with on their podcast). This is a part of the problem: 61% of Americans are self-silencing on issues that make us uncomfortable, leading us to not be honest about our true opinions, which make us think we are more divided than we actually are.

Thank you to @erica_pandey at @axios for the feature on Populace’s new study, the Social Pressure Index. As highlighted in the article: There's a growing disconnect between what Americans will publicly say and what they privately believe (which has enormous social, political, and personal consequences). Our new research quantifies where (and to what extent) Americans are misrepresenting their views the most. Check out the full article below, or visit Populace.org for the full report. axios.com/2024/09/24/us-…

This is profoundly despicable. Anyone who supports this kind of pathological behavior should be utterly ashamed of themselves (although something tells me shame is in short supply within the “by any means necessary” death cult).
Rep. Brad Schneider@RepSchneider

My Capitol office was vandalized yesterday in a vile act of hate in which the posters of the more than 100 people still held hostage in Gaza (including 8 Americans) were ripped from the wall, shredded and tossed across the hallway.

It definitely is a big problem, but I do think there are ways to deal with it. Or, at least, I’m going to spend my energy trying because it’s one thing to lose the American experiment via external threats and another thing to be brought down by manipulating perceived consensus and allowing us to tear ourselves apart.

@toddrose @karl_vick @TIME I agree but caution people to be aware there are actual zealots whose aim is to divide and destroy America and many of them are in positions of power and influence.

Pleased to have contributed to this article by @karl_vick for @TIME about one of the most pressing collective illusions plaguing our society today: the myth of polarization. As a private opinion researcher, it is painfully clear that much of our current political discourse is ‘learned divisiveness.’ The gap between what we personally think, what we believe other people think, and actual reality is truly profound. Our collective blind spot distorts our understanding of national priorities and fuels the illusion of irreconcilable division. Recognizing this discrepancy is essential for reuniting a nation that, in reality, shares more common ground than we often assume. time.com/6990721/us-pol…
