Brazil has a blue zone and no one talks about it.
A blue zone is one of the few places on Earth where the average person regularly lives past 90. There are only a handful of confirmed ones in the world.
This is Veranópolis. A small Italian-immigrant town in the south of Brazil, tucked into the wine country of Rio Grande do Sul. Around 24K people. Founded in 1884. Known as the National Cradle of Brazilian apple farming.
Longevity researchers have been studying it since 1994. A Blue Zones documentary about it just came out last year.
Hill country climate with vineyards in every direction. Locally grown food. Italian-Mediterranean diet. Daily red wine. Multi-generational households. A festival calendar that's been running since the 70s.
All the studied factors that contribute to people living to 90 and beyond.
The South of Brazil is wildly underrated and unknown.
