after sleeping on it* here are my thoughts 1) Will go to my deathbed incredulous that, during a dominant stretch on the ground, on 3rd & 1 at +17 poised to go up two scores and turn Ford Field into thunderdome, Ben Johnson goes empty-set and exposes his turnover-prone QB to a strip sack. Honestly the single-biggest momentum swing I've ever witnessed at a live sporting event. Crowd was never the same... and from the look of it, neither was the Lions sideline. 2) That play would come to epitomize a bizarre game and fans' collective sense of bewilderment. Put simply: This performance was a betrayal of everything the Lions have been about. We got glitzy when grit was needed most; we were stubborn when circumstances called for creativity; we played to the opponent's strengths instead of our own. Injuries are no excuse. The guys who have carried us—elite coach, hot-shot coordinators, star quarterback—choked when it mattered most. 3) This hurts so much worse than the flight home from San Fran, or going winless in 08, or the Favre heartbreak in 93/94. I was convinced—absolutely convinced, for reasons that defy logic and history—this was the team of destiny Detroit has been waiting for. Now we can only keep waiting... and wondering... and wishing we could jump in a time machine, go back to that 3rd & 1, and make things right. *definitely did not sleep
