𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐀 𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐓𝐇 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐌, 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐀 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐌 The metrics are lying to you. We’ve been conditioned to look at the chart the rising number of wallets, the spike in Discord members, and the surge in impressions and call it "growth." But if you peel back the layers, most of those numbers are hollow. The truth is, most projects aren't struggling to find people; they’re struggling to keep them. They have plenty of "users" but almost zero presence. Growth is loud, but presence is deep. Growth is a marketing campaign that brings in 10,000 bots and speculators, while presence is a core group of 100 people who actually show up, contribute, and move the needle. Growth is transactional, but presence is cultural. Growth asks, "What can I get?" while presence asks, "What can I build?" Essentially, growth is a vanity metric, but presence is an asset. You can’t build an ecosystem on vanity; you build it on the coordinated belief of people who are physically and mentally here. At @bwaveprotocol they’ve stopped chasing the noise. We realized that if you have 50,000 people but no one is talking, no one is governing, and no one is building you don’t have a community. You have a database. A presence problem is harder to fix than a growth problem because you can’t buy presence with an ad spend or an airdrop. You fix it with structure. You fix it by creating a "guided staircase" that turns a random click into a meaningful contribution. Stop trying to get bigger. Start trying to get real. Are you building a crowd, or are you building a presence?
