@BostonMMAGuy And that’s fine! I just was saying 15k a year isn’t a living wage 🤝 good convo appreciate that it remained civil throughout! Best of luck in your collecting!

@SpyDuckCards At the end of the day, for me, this boils down to if these guys want to take shit money to play a game that the rest of us do for free, in the longshot hopes that they can be a big leaguer? Fine. Chase the dream. Just don't ask someone else to pay their rent while they do it.

@BostonMMAGuy Professional sports teams and leagues get more “handouts” then you or I ever will.

@SpyDuckCards No, it's a perfect example of where someone is asking for handouts to keep playing for a living (drums or 3rd base, same thing) instead of getting a real job- while ignoring the fact that if they were good enough to generate revenue- they'd be compensated very handsomely.

@BostonMMAGuy Yes record deals are full of handouts… and there are tons of musicians who make undeserved money in this country.

@BostonMMAGuy You’re determining worth based only on ticket and concession sales. That’s like saying because a teacher doesn’t meet any sort of sales quota they shouldn’t exist.

@SpyDuckCards "Pay poverty wages" is another way of saying "pays what they're worth" If they are so mistreated, why don't they quit and find a better job?

@BostonMMAGuy The music industry has a long history of shading dealings with artists, predatory practices and racial discrimination in payments. So I don’t think that’s the one you want to draw comparisons to.

@SpyDuckCards What about musicians that are signed to deals but don't sell any records and are broke? Should the labels pay them more money just because there is a longshot chance they could turn into a mainstream success? Or do you get that livable wage once you actually start to earn it?

@BostonMMAGuy What’s your definition of living wage? This country has minimum wage requirements to protect workers from unadulterated corporate interests. These players are currently not offered the same protections. Baseball is a business at the pro level and needs to be treated as such

@SpyDuckCards It is a livable wage and the deserve what they earn. If they can't make a living on the salary then they need to make better decisions with how they manage their money and where they choose to work. Just like everyone else in this country.

@BostonMMAGuy And I’d argue that asking people to be paid a living wage isn’t “for the love the game”. The opposite is true, the people saying these folks should find other jobs so they can keep playing for Nickels are the ones saying they should play for the love of the game.

@SpyDuckCards That's for the owners to decide. Not for the fans who don't see the books, don't talk to the scouts and view it from a romanticized "love of the game" standpoint.

@BostonMMAGuy MLB like all major sports in the United States aren’t true capitalist enterprises. They benefit from government sanctioned monopolies, obscene tax benefits and public financed facilities. As such they are subject to greater public scrutiny.

@BostonMMAGuy The current still allows them to pay poverty wages so you’re right it hasn’t faltered.

@SpyDuckCards Has the MLB product faltered under the current model? I'd counter that by saying that maybe all these minor league affiliates are superfluous. The evidence seems to support that given all the teams that were dissolved when the teams were ordered to pay more money.

@BostonMMAGuy So it’s not a livable wage and they don’t deserve one. Got it 🤙🏼

@SpyDuckCards Then it sounds like they need to get a real job or find someone to support them while they spend their time playing a game with a ball for a living.

@BostonMMAGuy That needs to be accounted somewhere in your economic value analysis. Minor league players bring more value to the MLB then simply the ticket and concession sales at a minor league game.

@BostonMMAGuy You can argue they are paid their economic worth (which is what you are doing). But I’d argue you’d need to take into account that without a robust minor league system the MLB product falters. A product that made had 10 billion in revenue last year.
