California uses a "top-two" primary. The two candidates with the most votes advance to November, regardless of party. With a bunch of Democrats in the governor's race right now, the Democratic vote is splitting. Republicans Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco are leading most polls.

Why is RCV important? Because with 4 or 5 candidates, single-choice voting could let someone win with as little as 20-25% of the vote. RCV ensures a winner with broad and deep support.
