@DanLang12 I’ve never really understood the enormous chip Newcastle fans have on their shoulder when it comes to United. It fascinated me when I moved to Northumberland from Manchester as a kid and it seems to have got even bigger since. Such a one-directional rivalry.

Cargas a caballo, porrazos, lases lacrimogenos, empujones…

@HLTCO @RhysCarefree It’s a tricky one..I feel like some of the backlash against the fans imitating this style behind the goal at the Emirates and Selhurst Park is that it looks a bit lame and not English in style. But equally it feels a bit silly to criticise people trying to improve the atmosphere.

@RhysCarefree I agree with you completely on the ticket price point, I just don’t happen to share the perspective that what PSG do makes them freaks. I’m not saying that English fans “can’t” make an atmosphere, I’m saying that there are problems in doing so in the PL.

Premier league clubs never struggled to create atmosphere in the past and have never done any of this performative stuff. Getting in a pub with a load of fans generates the same atmosphere, just not for cameras. Atmospheres are struggling now because of ticket prices which price out working class fans and owners who would rather tourists in the ground because they’ll spend money in the club shop. Simple as that
HLTCO@HLTCO

People moan endlessly (me included) about the general deterioration of atmospheres at Premier League clubs but will see clips like this and say it’s shit and that the fans doing it are freaks. They’re showing support for their club, that should be applauded.

@afcjxmes United have less direct rivals? United have so many teams in the league that view the game against them as the biggest of the season if you asked their fans. Two of these are one-sided rivalries, but off the top of my head: Leeds, Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Newcastle at least.

It’s because: a) We’re rivals with all of the big 6 for different reasons (Spurs/Chelsea = local; City/Pool = title; United = Fergie vs Wenger). b) This generation grew up with us as whipping boys, now we’re on top it’s annoying. United get similar but have less direct rivals.

@TonyLaneNV Yes, London has fallen. Don’t come here. I’ve lived here for about 15 years now and I get robbed and beaten daily seconds after leaving the house. I’ve taken to just going out naked now so there’s nothing to steal. Stay in the US where it’s super safe.

A guy said he touched down in London for five hours and already got his chain snatched and rocked in the face. 😳 Traveling with flashy jewelry is becoming a liability these days — especially overseas. People are getting bold out there. Anyone here been to London? Was it this wild when you went, or is the city on a whole new level now? Thoughts? ⬇️ 🇺🇸

@jonnorris12 I saw a clip of this guy in Rome (I think) telling an African guy that “this is Europe - my continent” and alluding to the fact he doesn’t belong there. A white South African guy. The irony was completely lost on him, of course.

The Yorkshire author John Braine (famous for his novel 'Room at the Top'), recalls his first visit to Newcastle in 1954, and how the nobility of the city's architecture helped remind him that "man is made in the image of God." But he wasn't pleased by what had happened since ...

It does feel like in the last few years Liverpool’s transfer policy has involved signing players that stretch the scouse vocal range: - van Dijk - Gakpo - Szoboszlai - Gravenberch - Wirtz I’m sure there are probably a few other factors, but this seems to be the dominant one.
Tom Cross@tomcroxx

@SebSB That’ll be easier in scouse anyway.

@talkSPORT Liverpool might be more successful club right now, but surely non of their supporters truly think they’re bigger. United have always been the more globally famous, more talked about club. That was even true in the late 70s and 80s when Liverpool were winning everything.

@AndyMitten @Ankaman616 I really enjoyed it, Andy. I remember watching the game as a boy and going to the parade in Sale the next day. There’s so much nostalgia around that game. Also, as somebody (like you) who has lived in Barcelona, I’m interested in the big “Independencia” banner in the Barça end.

@Carra23 You can’t deny the numbers, it’s true. But deep down all Liverpool fans know that United are the bigger, more famous, and more talked about club. That was even true in the late 70s / 80s when Liverpool were winning everything and United were nowhere. Nothing has changed.
