@Erudite4Unity Apparently they got rid of peak fares but not peak travel times...Its all in the spin

Remember the SNP loudly trumpeted the end of peak rail fares, after saying they couldn't afford it? I've just discovered senior concession travel cards cannot be used for discounted train journeys before 09:00 and from 16:30-18:00. That sounds very much like peak fares to me.
