@JoshuaDHunter @LoneSpeedsterDX @BadCOVID19Takes Exactly, all these anti-vaxxers cite (incorrect) death rates as if that's the only consideration. If we let a (hypothetically) 99.74% death rate virus rip, and it was contagious enough to infect everyone, that's still 18 million deaths

@dpakman His analogy is ridiculous, because the express purpose of cars isn't killing. But going with it, getting rid of all drivers *is* the answer. Self-driving cars are here today and will probably largely solve this problem when the number increases.

@Antivaxxtakes Carnage compared to countries that have responded properly, but 20% fewer deaths p. capita compared to the UK. Maybe just a reflection of how poorly the UK has done, but hard to believe a poor effort is worse than doing nothing at all - so, other factors?

@magnabosco Do people look for hidden meaning in other conspiracy theories, including some untrue ones? What would you say to someone who believes in a compelling but untrue conspiracy theory?

“Someone who goes by Q drops a cryptic post. Then, people called bakers spot “bread crumbs” within the post to decode the message. Was that an accurate summary?” >”That’s pretty spot-on!” — What are some good, reflective questions to ask next? #streetepistemology

I am increasingly skeptical of the idea that “facts” can sway anti-vax people. What they need are people they feel they can trust understanding the root of their hesitancy and providing context that makes sense to them. It’s just so much damn work.

"If we do not have the capacity to distinguish what’s true from what’s false, then by definition the marketplace of ideas doesn’t work. And by definition our democracy doesn't work. We are entering into an epistemological crisis." - @BarackObama to @TheAtlantic, posting Monday.

@DeepDiscussion1 Inside people's heads they ask themselves "must I believe Biden is winning?", "can I believe Trump is winning?" and vice versa

You know what’s better than watching the debate live? Watching people’s reactions live. It’s so interesting to see how people view how it’s going after taking into account their own political leanings.
