Ernest Nuamah, a 20-year-old winger at Lyon was set to sign for Fulham but was in “floods of tears” during his medical because he didn’t want to leave the French club and felt he was being forced out against his will. He started undergoing his medical but fled and vanished before the final stage could be completed, with no one, not even his agent able to locate him, meaning the move had to be abandoned altogether. That left Lyon owner John Textor penning a formal apology to Fulham over the way things had gone.
